Hi, I am restoring a 66 K code with a Sep 65 build date. My question is should there be locking tabs on the exhaust manifolds (headers) for a 1966?

The 1966 Hipo exhaust manifolds use ramp lock bolts after approximately December 17, 1965. Being as your Kar was prior to that, yours will use the locking tab setup with a split type lock washer. These locking tabs are specifice to the Hipo 289 as the standard 289 locking tabs are different.

Thanks for your reply Fred, are the tabs much different than the standard ones, could I get away with standard ones if I can't find the correct ones do you think?

The long bolts on the standard manifolds have bolts that are shorter than the long bolts on the Hipo manifolds. Being as these locking tabs are connected between the short and long bolts, the Hipo locking tabs are unique. I went to the trouble to search for and attach a link where the proper ones are available. They are new and reasonably priced.
