While detailing my K Kar for this upcomming summer and documenting parts I developed a question about K Code heads.
The build date on the car is May 65, the engine block is also May 65... the heads are coded as follows;
The Number 21 head is date coded 3L21, the Number 19 head is date coded 3M23, both have 3/4" screw in rocker studs indicating early heads. The question is: I cannot find a casting number anywhere on either head, did I miss something somewhere?
The head casting number is on the underside in the lifter valley - I'm not sure if you can see it when the heads are on the block. You might try a mirror to see if it is visible.
I definitely recommend getting a copy of Bob Mannell's book - worth every penny - he shows this detail and 10,000 more at least!

Aging is a lot like a vintage car: Maintenance and upkeep is expensive, parts are hard to find and there is no memory. Thanks for the memory jog of which I'd forgtten about the early small block heads location for the casting numbers.
