• In the Ford world, There were never any factory rev limiters on Hipo 289 Kars. Beginning in 1969 Ford installed factory rev limiters on Boss 302 and Boss 429 cars. In 1970, the 428 CJ and 428 S/CJ with 4 speeds along with 429 CJ and S/CJ Torinos with 4 speeds also got them. In 1971 Boss 351 and 429 CJ and 429 S/CJ with 4 speeds came standard with a factory rev limiter. These were all easy to disconnect.

  • Thanks. I wondered about that, as the lesser non hipo mid 60’s engines didn’t have them. That explains how so many of these engines blew up.

The later cars with rev limiters did not fare much better as the serious hot rodders bypassed the rev limiters. They were easily disconnected.

The hydraulic lifter engines did fare better, though.
