1969-70 Adjustable Brake Proportioning Valve

  • Hey Guys,

I was just walking around a bone yard today and saw something that puzzled me. I saw a '69 or '70 (couldn't tell since most of car was gone) Grande coupe with what appeared to be a factory adjustable proportioning valve in it. Every other valve I've seen from this era was a fixed valve. This thing looked just like the fixed valve, but on the end it had an adjustment screw sticking out. Anyone have any ideas about this?

  • Sure someone didn't just plug the end with a screw when they rerouted things?

MY first guess ... never seen anything but the brass round tube fitting with no adjustments

  • I don't think so. It was on the retainer nut side, but instead of just a retainer, there was a 1/2" long adjustment screw protruding from the center of the end cap that could be adjusted with a flat head screwdriver. I added a picture of a stock '69 prop valve and annotated with the arrow where the adjustment mech was at. See pic below.

It didn't look like a mod. Although there was a lot of road grime on it.
