• Hi everybody,

I am back trying to find a motor for my convertible 65 code K.

For the moment, inside there is a 302 from 69.

But I have found a block casted C5AE-6015E.

Problem, I don't find any VIN stamped.

There is a K stamped but I have no idea if it stands for something ?

    Hereby some pictures.

Any help would be appreciate. The content cannot be displayed because you do not have authorisation to view this content. Being as the main caps have the centers ground smooth, I would guess that this block has Mexican main caps. A picture of the rear main cap will likely confirm this. A C5AE 6015 E block casting does NOT make the block a Hipo block. However, it is also true that all 6 bolt Hipo blocks through 1967 had the C5AE 6016 E casting. In other words, it takes that casting to be a Hipo 289 but that casting was also used for standard 2V and 4V 289 engines.

Ok, do you think that finding a HiPo block is possible and if yes, what is the price approximately ?

    Yves

Hipo blocks do exist but probably not so much in France. I have a few of various combinations and I would think that you might be looking for a block appropriate for your build date. I have seen prices vary from $1,500 to $3,500 depending on condition and current bore size. The original from your Kar, if it was available, would be worth even more. Keep in mind that there is more to a K code engine than just the block.

The bare block was what I thought you were asking about and I believe that I covered that very well. I believe that you already have some of the Hipo engine parts like the heads and intake manifold. Therefore I do not believe that you need a complete engine assembly. It is easy to spend in excess of $12,000 for a complete Hipo 289 core engine.

  • You re probably right but I don't find any specialist in France to do the job that s to say identifying what I already have, identifying what I need to have for having a complete engine and having the know how for realizing the operation.

Maybe have you an address for me ?

    Yves,

I am in Germany and I can assist you to identify what you have.
I have two K-Cars and a some K-parts that I can take pictures of.

Especially the differences between real K-blocks and those that have been fitted with Mexican main caps. Easy because I have a mexican block to compare side to side.

I can also recommend a very good shop here in Germany that can repair most any damaged HiPo (or other) engines.

The bad news (for you) - none of my parts are for sale.

    Greetings
