Here is an Ebay auction for a pair of used C3OE heads by Ebay member "mep1170" with a starting bid of $1,999.00 and a Buy-It-Now of $2,999.00:
Rare Shelby American-Hipo 289 Heads
These are not your regular Hipo heads, but be are definitely rare & may be considered historical.
C3OE heads ported & stamped by Valley Head Service in Canoga, California.
From my understanding, this was the outfit that did the port work on (at least the early) Shelby American racing Cobras.
The heads have, besides the obvious port work, beautiful chamber work.
New Ferrea 6000 series 1.90 & 1.60 valves.
New Comp Cams Springs-# 987-16 (121 #’s @ 1.800” / 343 #’s @ 1.200”, 370 lbs/inch) For solid flat tappet or mild solid roller use.
Comp Cams chromoly retainers & machined keepers & of course new valve seals.
Professional three angle valve job, new stainless valves. New springs (for mild roller or solid cam use) & retainers.
These were assembled in a motor that was never fired - the matching #’s short block was used for a correct restoration - thus some of the pictures show them painted- they are post removal from the assembled engine.
One of the heads has a broken boss in the interior (see pictures)- for one of the off center intake bolt-this is fairly common on SBF - happens when bolt installed is of the wrong length and/or over tightening (the factory recommended torque on the intake is only 12 to 15 ft/lbs). Not visible & non consequential as there is enough good thread left in the boss to handle proper torquing.
Heads are clean & ready to assemble- will be wrapped & protected to keep them that way.
Great for the restoration/racing of that special 289 Cobra/Fairlane/Falcon/Galaxie, etc
