    Here is an Ebay auction for a used C5DA Cobra scatter shield bellhousing by Ebay member "jollyroge" with a starting bid of $.99:

    Cobra 260-289 -302 Ford Mustang GT350 Cobra scatter shield bellhousing. Here is an early Cobra lettered scatter shield for a small block Ford engine. This is the 6 bolt variation that will take both bolt pattern Ford transmissions including top loader and T-10 early and late style gearboxes . Being of cast steel construction this style of scatter shield / bellhousing is very strong and would still work today as an approved blow proof bell housing . It would be correct for all 6 bolt Shelby American products including 65-70 GT350’s R-models , Trans Am Group II Mustangs and some late 289 Cobras . It has the correct markings on it. Part # C5DA-6382-A on the inside with NHRA APP. on the outside with the Cobra lettering and the “Wedge” lettering for the MFG. Shelby had these produced for Shelby American by Wedge mfg. This bellhousing has been modified for a hydraulic throw out bearing to be used in a vintage road race application. I removed the hydraulic throw out bearing and it can be used once again in a stock application. Once the transmission is bolted up the mounting holes for the hydraulic throw out bearing are covered and not noticeable. These are a great alternative to the generic non period look of latter day stamped scatter shield that is available today. A very rare and hard item to find these days and a cool piece from the 1960’s for your classic car. Winner pays actual UPS shipping charges. Good luck bidding !

    Yes, thanks, one easy way to tell if a Cobra 6-bolt is original or reproduction is by the part number embossed inside. Originals have dashes between the numbers. Reproductions have no dashes. I hope this will keep somebody from buying a reproction advertised as original.

Shelby American has these blow proof bell housings specifically made for them in the 1960’s by a Wedge . Wedge was one of the major safety bell housing manufacturers during the 1960’s. These were made for Shelby with the Cobra lettering on them. Cast out of a high quality chrome moly steel these offered protection from an untimely clutch explosion during competition use. They were made for the both the early 5 bolt engines and the later 6 bolt engines. This is the 6 bolt version that was introduced in 1965 for the 289 Hi-Po but it will fit the 260 -289 -302 and 351W engines. This bell housing has all of the correct markings . Wedge , NHRA approved and the part number C5DA-6392-A . It comes with a matching block plate. These are sought after because of their originality and also because they actually fit like a standard bell housing without the need of trimming headers and clutch linkage etc. This one was removed from a 65 GT350 Shelby. A nice piece to add to your Ford small block powered drive train. Winner pays actual UPS shipping cost. Good luck bidding !
