front upper shock bracket hardware

  • What was used to retain the front upper shock mount bracket bolts on 65-66 mustangs to hold them in place until the bracket & nuts were installed (three per side) . was it a tin clip as was used on rear wheel studs to keep the rear brake drum on after a wheel/tire was removed or some other type of retainer, thanks.

There is nothing to actually hold the studs in place, The studs just slip into the slot and the metal below it holds the stud up from underneath.

  • Thanks Fred, I should have known that, the lower slots are missing for some reason ,corroded or broken off, time to fabricate,

Chuck, The studs just sit on top of the piece of metal where the upper end of the coil spring sits which is part of the shock tower assembly. There is an insulator that goes between the spring and the shock tower. (C4DZ 5415 A) The slots only index the studs and keep them from turning. Sometimes I need to jam a screwdriver under the studs to help keep them from turning on studs with corrosion.
