original C5OE-A 289 Hi-Po / 289 K-Code service replacement balancer C8ZE-A looks very similar to original C5OE-A 289 Hi-Po / 289 K-Code balancer except for a few minor differences.
C8ZE-A service replacement has a slight step on the face as compared to the smooth face of the original Hi-Po balancer.

This is the Ford Service Replacement balancer for the 289 Hi-Po / 289 K-Code. It was never used on production engines.
The service replacement balancers for the 289 Hi-Po / 289 K-Code motor had a number cast into them which was C8ZE with an A underneath it.
There would also be a step down in the outer surface where the timing numbers are, as in,
it would go straight back for like an inch & a quarter or so, and then have a little step for the last half inch or so on the end closest to the timing chain cover.

This is the Ford service replacement for the 289 High Performance / 289 Hi-Po / 289 K-Code FORD Mustang / Shelby / Fairlane engine.
This is a Ford 289 Hi-Po / 289 Hi-Performance / 289 K-Code Crankshaft Damper C5OZ-6316-C.
This item is in good condition please see pictures. This is an authentic Ford assembly line part with minimal signs of age.
Ford 289 Vibration Damper. C8ZE-A part # cast in. Service part, built from 1968 and later.
This is original production part.
It seems Ford used existing C5OE centers to produce the very few balancers needed for AC equipped 289 Hi-Po / K-Code 289 motors in 1967.
By 1968 production, the center casting changed to a C8ZE-A which also became the default service part.
If you try to fit an original 67 A/C crank pulley to the C5OE balancer you will see that it will not fit or will fit so tight as to bind on the outer ring.
The '67 A/C pulley would not fit in the C5OE damper so a new outer ring was made to allow it.
Since this was an alteration to a production part but a very small quantity, the casting number was removed and re-stamped.
Plans were in place for a "Hi-Po 302" for '68 (dropped for the also dropped 302 street tunnel port) manufacturing changed the blueprint to effect the changes.
The casting number was changed to C8ZE to reflect the updated part. Since neither of the intended use engines were produced, the dampers were sold over the counter.

This is an OEM original HIPO Ford counterbalance. Incredibly rare as it only came on HIPO Mustangs. Highly sought after. Check other prices on ebay to see how affordable mine is (I am a big fan of paying it forward in the car hobby community).
Sold as a core as the rubber damper should probably be rebuilt before you put this on a nice fresh engine.
