Induction- how to heat the fuel?

  • Bob Mannel's book chapter-2 2-22 shows two pictures top and bottom of a carburator spacer which included provisions for heating the fuel air mixture on all 1962- 221 and 260 engine's.Ford later went to a duct with a thermo heat flap on the air cleaner which worked off the pass side exhust manifold's on the 289's to achive appox. 100 degrees. On the Hi-po's with the open air, air cleaner's how is the mixture heated?

  • It's not. The heat flap in the air cleaner really helped with carb ice build up in cold damp conditions. But, if you have the factory intake, I think there is a heat crossover that runs under the carb, from one head to the other. I have not looked at a factory manifold in years, correct me if I'm wrong. It should be checked for carbon build up and blockage.

This passage is blocked off or non-existing on most performance intakes.
