Hi all, Does anyone know whether the repo rally pacs (FORD on tacho) can be used with higher voltage electronic ignition systems such as Accel, Mallory etc? And how do you wire them up? I have heard of these pacs blowing up with these ignition systems.
Repo Rally Pac Wiring

Welcome to 'up here'.
It depends on what repro Rally Pac you get. The one I recently got from National Parts Depot wired the same as the original, inline between the ignition switch and the resistance wire behind the instrument cluster. There is a connection at the switch. That one went on my 65 GT 'A' code Fastback. I have an original 8k RPM Rally Pac on my 66 GT 'K' Fastback that wires that way. I also have an older repro one that picks up the signal from the negative terminal of the coil and that type requires a wire run thru the firewall. Neither type of hook-up should have any devastating voltages present but I have stock distributors on both cars. I haven't got around to seeing what will work with a Pertronix ignition system.

I beleive there are only 2 types of repo rallys on the market. One is the Drake type and the other made by Oval with the "FORD" on the tacho. (I have got the FORD on tacho type). I am led to believe that you must run a separate wire to the neg side of the coil if you are running an after market electronic distributor (not the pretronix type) instead of wiring thru the under dash loom. Is this correct or not?

I have seen similar discussions on how to wire the pacs (last December) and everyone was confused. I believe there are 2 pacs on the market. The Drake rally pac needs to be wired to coil (as per Mustang monthly article, because they could not get an air-core tach to work properly). There are a few retailers that sell this type of pac. The non Drake rally pac (it has the FORD on the tach) wires thru the loom and it has nothing to do with if it is a 65 or 66 pac. So your rally pac that wires to coil probably does not have the FORD on tach, is this correct? My problem is that I have a Mallory electronic dizzy and have been told it needs to be wired to coil as a negative coil trigger (Drake type) , otherwise if I use a FORD type, it will blow up (because it wires thru loom).Does anyone know the answer? Can you connect the ford type to coil instead of thru harness ?? Does anyone know??
