4spd R&R/Console/Shifter

  • Need to pull the 4spd from a car with a floor console. I suppose taking the seats out to remove the console is the best way to get to the shifter. What will I find once I get the shifter boot out of the way? How does the shifter come off so to lower the tranny? Thanks.

  • The shifter is held to the shift gate with 2 bolts at the base of the shifter. You don't need to remove the boot to get the bolts off, but you will need to remove the boot from the floor, which is attached with 2 phillips head bolts. Carpet usually needs to come up for this.

Never tried it, but you might possibly get the shifter bolts off from underneath the car by dropping the trans down a little after unbolting the rear mount. This would probably save a lot of time.

  • Thanks CT, my boot has 4 screws. I'll go at it from the top, looks like there's a wire for the backup light switch that needs unpluged also.
