stuck Distributor

  • Needed to bump up my timing last night and can't get my distributor to turn. My dist. is a mint C50F 12127 Dual-point on a mint cobra intake. Last time I tryed to turn it about two years ago. I used a large plier (it was hard to turn then also) and put a nice mark around the base of the shaft. So we wont try that again. Tryed starting the engine with the holddown nut/screw out thinking it might turn it but NG. Stuck with low timing...HELP

  • its just stuck. put a piece of card board around it then grab those pliers or channel lock. when its out, i would check it out to find out why it is getting stuck.

    hope this helps.

  • I'd try a strap wrench before resorting to the Channel Locks.

You can find them at most places - usually a thick rubber band or cloth strap - I'd try to find a cloth one 'cause it sounds like it is in there good.

You might also want to try it when the engine is hot - if it is stuck due to paint or oil sludge this might free it up a little easier.
