Battery cable gauge

I need to replace the battery cables on my GT-350. It has a stock HiPo 289. The battery is in its correct location. I remember replacing them in the late 1980s with the correct size but the positive cable got very hot. My Dad replaced it with very heavy gauge cable. I dont know what size it is. What size gauge do you all recommend for both the positive and negative cable? Thanks

I just fitted a set of these from Marti, they do look skinny.

Nice looking tho' I have not felt then to see if they get hot I guess I had better check next time I run the car.
