289 HiPo Engine & Early Carb

  • 289 HiPo long block for sale.

The engine from an old road race car. It is .030" over with newer pistons, does not need to rebored. The HiPo rods have the sides polished. It has the original crank which I think has been rebalanced for use without the hatchet.

The block is a C5AE block, but writing this I cannot remember the date code. It is NOT stamped with a serial number. It does of course have the HiPo main caps.

A spot inspection of the bearings looks good.

The heads are mildly ported with Chevy valves and the back wall of the combustion chamber laid back as with Crane Fireball heads. The heads have the original studs, etc.

It was removed from racing service due to a Crane roller rocker failure.

There is a roller timing chain installed, but no cam retainer. The cam looks good but it is of unknown make. No lifters or pushrods or rockers.

Two things are wrong with the engine, it had apparently been freeze cracked in the usual area, behind #4 in the bellhousing area. This was repaired with epoxy and was in service with this repair. Also the back of the crank was bored out for a larger bronze transmission bearing and there is a small part broke off surrounding the bearing.

It would not be hard to return the engine to service.

Also just listed an early AJ HiPo carb on Epay. Of course, off Ebay offers considered, would like to sell both at Columbus.

I will be taking these to the Ford Columbus swap meet in the Voinvich (sp) building. $1900 Doug babebolt@yahoo.com
