Babybolt was a Hot Rod magazine article car done by Scott Sullivan back in the late 80's or early 90's. It was light metallic blue with an injected 5.0L AOD and bench seat custom grey interior. Some exterior mods done but not too much. I saw this car in person at Canfield Ohio way back then. "Babybolt" has come to generically mean a Thunderbolt style clone or tribute 64 Fairlane with a Ford small block rather than an FE.

I would have liked to see the above car, it doesn't look too bad. But at $35K the seller should have taken the money and run.

I actually had a car I think was as nice as the one above, a California post car with an injected 5.0L T5, white with a red interior that a dealer in Grand Rapids bought 10 years ago from me for less than half of the above car. And mine had front disc brakes also.

A case, tailshaft housing, front bearing retainer, close ratio cluster gear, and the front part of the driveshaft with u-joint.

    Pictures are here:

$650 for the above parts, plus shipping from Hartland, MI.

From what I could find, this came from a real HiPo car that was near Detroit and was sold to a guy in Canada last year.

The case has no vin stampings.

The front bearing retainer is original Ford and is in good condition. The cluster gear is in very good condition. I think the U-Joint is original also.

289 HiPo long block for sale.

The engine from an old road race car. It is .030" over with newer pistons, does not need to rebored. The HiPo rods have the sides polished. It has the original crank which I think has been rebalanced for use without the hatchet.

The block is a C5AE block, but writing this I cannot remember the date code. It is NOT stamped with a serial number. It does of course have the HiPo main caps.

A spot inspection of the bearings looks good.

The heads are mildly ported with Chevy valves and the back wall of the combustion chamber laid back as with Crane Fireball heads. The heads have the original studs, etc.

It was removed from racing service due to a Crane roller rocker failure.

There is a roller timing chain installed, but no cam retainer. The cam looks good but it is of unknown make. No lifters or pushrods or rockers.

Two things are wrong with the engine, it had apparently been freeze cracked in the usual area, behind #4 in the bellhousing area. This was repaired with epoxy and was in service with this repair. Also the back of the crank was bored out for a larger bronze transmission bearing and there is a small part broke off surrounding the bearing.

It would not be hard to return the engine to service.

Also just listed an early AJ HiPo carb on Epay. Of course, off Ebay offers considered, would like to sell both at Columbus.

I will be taking these to the Ford Columbus swap meet in the Voinvich (sp) building. $1900 Doug babebolt@yahoo.com

Well, got bad news for you:

First, I collect bellhousings and this is only the second 5 bolt one I've had.

The other one I sold recently to a very savvy collector for $900. It was a Cobra bellhousing. He knew what it was and thought he got a very good deal, which he did.

I'll gladly buy any 5 or 6 bolt scattershields you guys come up with for $150.

Found a 65 Hi-Po block. C5AE-6015-E 4J23 date code, stamped 4J24F left front pad. Stamped 5F07K309663 left front pan rail. Registry is not showing this number. The block still has the Z-bar stud on the right rear so it was a 4 speed car. The block is at the machine shop getting the cylinder bores measured. Its probably been bored in the past. Bad news is someone has already made off with the main caps before I got to it. My intention is to take it to Columbus if anyone wants it. Doug at babebolt@yahoo.com
