It was probably just a regular enamel.

The lock tabs and fasteners would have received some engine color over spray when painted. Also, have observed some original tabs appearing to have been dipped in black paint before they were installed.

Going by memory, believe that coupes with handling package had red dots or stripes.

Agree that dates don't jive. My '65 K fastback is only separated by 4,000 units from that VIN and mine has a January '65 scheduled build date.

A while back when ordering springs from Eaton, I asked the lady on the phone taking my order if in fact they were the OEM supplier to Ford for leaf springs on 60's Mustangs and she told me that was a rumor that was started somehow and not true. 'E' on the leaf springs could refer to many things.

Ended at $1225

While we can never know with 100% certainty how many K codes came out of the assembly plant without VIN stamped engines and transmissions, the one thing that we can all agree on is that Ford did intend to have all K engines and transmissions stamped.

The 2 screw pump was the predominant pump in '66. Yes, would have been used on other Fords, just like the previous version was used on multiple product lines.
-
The 3 screw washer pumps were used from '64.5 through early '66. As far as I know, the wiper speed (single or dual) had no impact on the type of washer pump used. Windshield washers were optional in '65 and standard in '66.

For an old engine, it has a few "shiny" items, like the accelerator return bracket, the bracket's nut, the idle adjust screw and just about everything else associated with the carb. The engine ID tag is in relatively good shape too.
Jim
Would expect the carb to have been covered in plastic, which would have protected those items. A detail that is nice to see and indicates the carb is untouched is the return spring being dyed in blue. All of the re-builders do that piece wrong in zinc dichromate.

Black, white and blue were available at the beginning of production, not sure how long the blue lasted though. Have heard of tan, but never seen it as an offering on any Ford order sheets.
Black and white were the only colors available in '66.

Not all of them had that clamp that is a later production 66 style clamp. the 65 cars had a band type clamp.
On the GT style system, there is a band clamp and also the saddle-style exhaust clamp. The saddle exhaust clamp holds the extension to the rear tail pipe and then the band clamp holds the pipe assy. up to the rear frame rail hangers. The Arvinode dual exhaust system used only a large band clamp in the rear (around the resonator) with the turn-downs welded into the rear tail pipes.

Yes, the EH-53 style should be used at the trumpet extension. Regular exhaust clamps should be used at the H-pipe. The rest of the system should be welded together, no clamps on either side of the mufflers.

...but some of those guys are over here now http://www.concoursmustang.com
Yep, that's where we all went. Don't and won't participate on VMF anymore for reasons I cannot state in public.

What is the date code on the NOS wing glass?
-
From what I understand, VMF was sold by it's owner to Autoforums.

The ones with the indent used to sell for $15-30 each. You're in la la land if you think the earlier ones sell for that. I seriously doubt you have ever actually had one. Do you know what the Ford part number is for them?
I don't really care how many cars you've had. It doesn't give you the right to insult others on a public forum. There are many more appropriate ways that you could have responded. I have been very cordial with you in the past and done nothing but help whenever I can.
