NOS SK Hipo Heads

Here is an Ebay auction for a pair of NOS SK Hipo heads by Ebay member "fordstore1" with a Buy-It-Now of $5,500.00:

For Sale: One matched pair of NOS “SK 28984” Shelby competition cylinder heads. These heads started out as FoMoCo experimental “SK Castings” indicated by no regular production casting numbers, or date codes, only the SK 28984 numbering. (see photos) These special SK Castings were never equipped on production cars nor sold to the general public over-the-counter.

NOTE: the stock small port cylinder head with Ford C6OE casting numbers in the photos are for comparison only and not included in this sale. You will receive the 2 matching large port cylinder heads with the SK 28984 casting numbers.

It appears to me these special SK castings were larger/thicker around the port areas in order to allow even more porting than stock ports could ever go.

The quality of workmanship in the combustion chambers and porting was done extremely well by a professional cylinder head vendor named Rogers Porting Service, which is stamped on both heads. (see photo)

Rogers Porting Service, at 11823 Sherman Way, North Hollywood was a vendor used by Shelby American and only 20 miles from Shelby's shop in Venice California at the time. (see photo) Of course Shelby also used other vendors like Valley Head Service, etc.

These special “SK” ported and polished cast-iron competition cylinder heads were likely used on all of Shelby's competition small blocks, including the 350 GT-Rs, AS & B-Production class Shelby's, competition Cobras, GT 40s, etc. Confirm your own research on this.

Specifications:

Valve size: Intake 1.94” Exhaust 1.60” Guides 11/32” (stock 289 = Int 1.78” / Exh 1.45”)

Port size: Intake 2.100” X 1.200” (stock 289 = 1.950” X 1.050”)

Exhaust 1.500” X 1.250” (stock 289 = 1.250” X 0.970”)

These heads are New Old Stock, never been run or installed, with no valves included.

Interestingly, these heads do not have the normal cast in valve spring pockets associated with production Hipo heads.
