You can also adjust the curve by bending the post holding the spring. the lighter spring brings timing up faster and in theory helps performance. Back in high school I (mid 70’s) had access to a distributor machine and some charts that were available from some magazines or Ford books. I don’t know that you get a seat of the pants feel.
