How to store parts properly

  • Hello Guys,

I would like to store some spare parts for a longer period of time (cylinder heads, a carburetor and more).

Unfortunately the storage place is a bit damp and cold (It's Germany, do i have to say more?).

How should I store the parts so that they don't rust?

I have considered to cover the cylinder heads with a cloth dipped in engine oil. But what do I do with the rest?

    Looking forward to your suggestions.

    Best regards,

    Niko

  • Do you ever buy new items that come with what looks like sugar packets in the box? Those have a chemical in them that absorbs moisture in the air called a desiccant . Here is a sample:

The oily rag around the carburetor will not hurt the carburetor but it will probably stain the finish.

You could always sell the parts to some fool in the U.S. for half the value and let them deal with the moisture. : )
