These guide plates came out in the old Ford Muscle Parts program. These were meant to be used when substituting 351W cylinder heads for Hipo 289 heads or just as an improved head. These are great for repairing a 289 Hipo head where the push rod slots in the head have been compromised. All that needs to be done is to drill out the slots and install these guide plates below the screw in studs. These are thin and make it so that no extra machining of the heads are required. The aftermarket guide plates are thicker and require that the casting of the head where the rocker stud sits be machined down to compensate for the higher mounting of the rocker studs because of the thicker aftermarket guide plates.
