Here is an opportunity to acquire a one-of-a-kind 1966 Mustang GT Convertible with historic ties to both Henry Ford II and Le Mans. As confirmed by a certificate from Ford France dated January 3, 1991, this K-code GT convertible was specially produced for Henry Ford II’s visit to France for the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans. Reportedly, Henry Ford II drove the Mustang during the course-opening activities as part of his duties as honorary race chairman. In addition to its 289 High Performance engine, 4-speed transmission and 3.89:1 rear gearing, the GT was enhanced by Ford’s styling department with a special Raven Black paint finish, white leather top and a leather interior, which was not available for regular-production Mustangs. Beyond the special leather upholstery, the interior also came with unique door panels with pull straps, 1967 Cougar bucket seats, a leather-wrapped shifter knob, dual gauge pod above the instrument panel for temperature gauge and tachometer, and a custom console with clock and storage trays. The “HFII” logo is found on the steering wheel horn ring, seat belt buckles, exterior door badges and keys. Equipped with its matching-numbers 289/271 HP High Performance engine, the convertible is also nicely optioned with the GT Equipment Group, AM/8-track stereo tape player, power steering, power brakes, power convertible top and styled steel wheels. As a GT model, the convertible is equipped with grille-mounted fog lights, trumpet dual exhaust tips, rocker panel stripes, front disc brakes and a quicker steering ratio. Based on the standard 289 small-block V-8, the K-code 289 HiPo engine generates a high-revving 271 HP thanks to a solid-lifter camshaft, special cylinder heads with heavy-duty valve springs, a 4-barrel carburetor and high-flow exhaust manifolds. The Henry Ford II 1966 Mustang GT convertible spent most of its life in France, where it was often displayed at Mustang Club de France events.
