Suspenion mod

  • Hi All, I hope everyone has had a good Xmas and New Year. Has anyone fitted/or used a lower control arm camber kit such as this one. http://www.opentrackerracingproducts.com/camberkit/

And used it in conjunction with a RRS adjustable strut rod kit

http://www.rrs-online.com/strutrodproducts.php with a urethane bush kit.

Would you use any spacers on the upper control arm mounting bolts.

I am looking at doing this mod on my 65 Futura.

    Any advice greatly accepted.

    Thanks Zed

  • ZED,

I put something similar from Mustangs Plus on my daughters '66 - but just the lower camber kit.

I still used a small group of shims up top for getting camber and caster close and did the final camber adjustment at the bottom.

Beyond that I can't help - budget doesn't currently allow me to go to the Global West set up with the tubular arms and adjustable strut rod like I want.

  • Zed - glad to help.

I one of those unique guys - I love to restore Mustangs and modify them too. Depends upon the car and the goal. So I've done a lot of different work to the multiple Mustangs I own.

My daughters '66 Coupe was a barn find - highly optioned A code - but missing the original motor/tranny - so to make it safe and fun to drive for her we put a '93 GT / AOD in it with the fuel injection set up. Runs and drives very nicely.

The first set of front tires wore badly on the inside - so new springs and the camber kit were installed to fix that.

My next project for this car is to install a Borgeson power steering box. R&P set ups are just too expensive for a daily driver IMHO - so this looks like the best budget way to fix the old original sloppy power steering and steering box - AND keep power steering for her.

I have also installed Mustang Steve's Power Brake kit on this car - works really nice - retrofits an Escort booster onto the stock pedal support with some minor mods. Allows nice power brakes with a dual master cylinder and clears everything except the stock clutch linkage - not a problem in my case since we switched to the AOD.
