What points to use

  • I have a question, the manual calls for Dp-6 points, service points still available are DP-12 which cross to all the 289's and most other V8's so I assume they're equivelent to DP-5's. I think the only difference is the spring pressure. Are these ok to use, what does everybody else use. I like to drive it and she might see an occasional trip to the drags, I wouldn't think there would be any difference until High RPM's. Thanks

  • You are correct, DP-5's have less spring pressure than DP-6's. DP-12's are for standard single point distributors, I don't believe they will fit a dual point dizzy as they have a different (curved) shape.


    Go to a NAPA and ask for Echlin CS-756 points. They are direct replacements for DP-6.
