It was interesting to note that there were 6 pace cars offered at the Mecum Spring Auction, including one of the few convertibles:

Very neat!! I wasn't aware until now that any convertibles were built.
Technically, none of them were K code cars.
So, What did they use as a base of the build? D code?
The 3 track cars were VIN'd as wimbledon white F codes on the assembly line.
The dignitary cars were just white convertibles pulled from local dealer stock. The only requirement for those was that they were white with red, white or blue interiors. Side graphics were applied. Once the decals came off, there was nothing to identify the car as being used as a parade car.
For sake of clarity here fellows I didn't start this thread stating the pace cars were K codes. I just thought it was cool that one had surfaced and we had some decent information on the modifications as there were only a few of them (convertibles).

Well, since you posted on the K-CODE forum, there was an implication that there was a link. There's so much bad information out there on the original 3 PC track cars, it doesn't hurt to clarify what they were when necessary.
Of course, if you want to get into a discussion about the actual engines that were used in the PC track cars, then that would definitely bear significance on this forum! ![]()
I thought this was the general discussion section; I must have took a wrong turn. Next time I'll go over to the convertible pace car forum and post:)
Given that H&M prepped the motor, that's where I thought the interest would be.
Yep, the H&M engines were very cool!
You gotta admit, though, that one of those 3 track PC's would be the ultimate muscle Mustang for that time.
