Thanks Bob, that sounds like it is exactly what I need. I know the 64 K code Fairlane used satin black for their engine color but did the K Mustangs use the same? Reason I ask is Por-15 makes an engine paint kit in black but only high gloss.

The head is cast 65, has a date of 6M22 and is drilled and capped for smog. This is a little confusing as I thought the smog heads were C7 castings or later. Is this style correct for a 67 engine? Also I'll be looking to find a mate for this head if that's possible.

Hello Terry - I have a freshly rebuilt pair of 6M22 K code heads. I would like to trade them for a pair of 4G or 4H heads of like quality. If that would interest you let me know.

What kind of difference do you see between the engine build date and the build date of your kar?

The challenge here will be that we know that that date can be off as much as three weeks. Unfortunately this makes that date almost IMHO no value. Wish we have access (like the later guys) to the real dates

I agree Jeff. Wish we had those records. On my 66 Mustang there is 20 days from the scheduled build date and when the original owner took delivery. I don't know what that tells me but at least I have it documented.

Power brakes were available with manual trans cars in 65.My 4,500 mile A code 4 speed coupe is so equiped.

Mke, Wow only 4500 miles! Can you supply a few pictures of the engine bay. Always nice to see one with such low mileage.

    Thanks,

The shape of the fan blades where they connect to the center appears to be correct and matches the originals that I have. It also has a balance weight that I have only seen on originals. The repros that I have in stock have a different shape for the blades. I will agree that $8,100 is more than tops even if the trans were correct. I have my doubts about the lower end without some pictures. The picture of the date code on the head is too close up to see if the cast in valve spring pockets are there. The only picture where I can make out the number on the upper end of the head looks to be an 18 which does not fall into the 19, 20 or 21 that is accepted for Hipo heads. It does not have a carburetor either.

Fred, I spoke with the owner of the engine and if what he told me is correct the fan is original. He said the person he got the engine from cleaned and painted the fan. Still, as you say, 8100.00 is over the top.

That's a lot of coin for a motor that cannot be verified as an actual K engine. Someone can buy heads, rods, main caps and a balancer for a whole lot less than $12k. With the motor mounts not being for a hi-po and the fan possibly being a repro, is there anything else of value there?

Charles is absolutely correct in my opinion. Even if all that is in the picture is K code correct 8100.00 is still high. From the looks of that engine it would have to be completely rebuilt and to do that right and make it factory correct you are going to have around 10,000.00 in cost for that. Maybe you could do the rebuild for a little less but when it is all said and done you will have between 15 and 18 K in an engine.

Keep in mind that fresh cast Ford blocks were 'tossed' out into the open to weather for a month or two before machining. This aging feature is a normal practice for cast iron products.

My 64 HIPO Fairlane engine has a casting date of 3M9 and an assembly date of 3M19. Not much of an "aging" process for this one. :D

Now my 66 HIPO Mustang, well that is another story. Engine cast date of 5K30 and an assembly date of 6B17.
