Mine has 5001 hand die stamped into the left rear tooling boss of the cylinder block near the block deck surface, as Dan described in his post and as he has shown in the bottom-right picture... what is your number? I noticed that my block was cast the same day as one of your heads!

I'm just curious... I have the sister to this one and she was cast on 4C24! What is the sequence number on your engine? Mine is number 5001.
Not sure what you mean by sequence number. You referring to the vin?
I currently have a few more pictures of the crank, including markings that may or may not be the stamp you are referring to. There is a stamp on the web forward of the #4 main cap that I can't make out but I have seen triangle stampings referenced online etc.. There is a small amount of orange paint left (pic 5) on that web as well. The polished counterweight you are referring to I believe is a from a grain count they do under a microscope to ensure quality. Not sure any other angles would help of that area.

I’d be interested in its travel history. Why it left home and how it got to be where it was and everywhere between. The stories it could tell.
My original shortblock was traded as a core at a Ford dealer in the late 60’s early 70’s for Hi-Po replacement. Wonder if it was rebuilt and put in who knows what and maybe still running around. Did they grind the VIN off? Was it rebuilt as a hipo? I don’t know the circumstances that required a new engine, maybe it had a window from an escaping piston.
Not quite sure of why the engine was removed. It is still standard bore with all original internals. My car is a Hertz Shelby so it could be possible the engine was swapped when rented as the myth goes and then sold later on and ended up with the guy who owned it it since the 80's. Who knows how many times it could have changed hands until ultimately ending up in Canada.
Just wanted to give a shout out and thank you to Evan Tugby for contacting Howard Pardee (SAAC '65/'66 GT350 registrar) with my original engine info. Evan contacted Howard after receiving info from Mr. Darren Beasley regarding the engine to include in his vin data base. The engine was all the way in Canada, originally from California, now back in California. It was a big headache getting across the border but well worth the time and effort. Thanks to all involved.

My car currently has this vin coded engine along with its matching cylinder heads. At some point I will be pulling it and listing for sale but in the meantime I am hoping to help reunite with its original body. Also looking for my car's block which is listed in the title. I can't disclose full vin as it is a Shelby but hoping if someone has a 6R09K181 block, we can discuss the remaining digits privately. My car spent its life in southern California so I'm guessing it may still be somewhere in that area.

New to this site but not Mustangs. I recently acquired a '66 black/gold Hertz Shelby. This is my 1st Hipo 289 car but I've owned many other performance Mustangs in the past. I look forward to meeting others and utilizing the site. Hopefully I can find my original engine block! My car currently has a '65 K code coupe block that I will post at some point.
