I have a set of hipo rods I’m prepping to sell. Going to sell individually for the person who needs 1 or 2 or wants a couple extras.
They had some rust so have been blasted, and now have that gray finish.
They’ve been magnafluxed, and am going to have them sized and checked for straightness, so the idea is to provide a rod that is known to be good, straight, matched cap, and ready to go….but wont look like it originally did.
So my questions are:
1) do you all think it’s worth trying to blue or dye them?
2) anyone know of a bluing product or tool die that produces close to the original color?
Thanks,
Rich
Blasted rods and non blasted are shown below for comparison

Good thoughts Fred, as always.

I just bought a C3OE-B hipo balancer. The inner hub looks original but the outer ring looks too crisp to be old. It does however have the timing marks and the 2 character date stamp.
Does anyone know if the Scott Drake reproduction has the timing marks and date stamp? Just wondering if they did a swap.
Thanks in advance,
Rich

That is certainly a reasonable timeframe to be a matched set. A general rule is date stamps within a month of a car's scheduled build date, however that can vary greatly depending on which timeframe we are talking about, as parts got scarce and things got busy. I have heard of date stamps being 2 to 3 months apart, and even the scheduled build date on a door tag can vary widely from the actual build date of the car. It is by no means a set in stone thing.
I would also like to discuss when it comes time to sell. You can send me PM or email at classiauto66@gmail.com

I have block with VIN 5F07K610027 or possibly 5F07K610927. The 9th digit is stamped low and hard to tell.

No caps.
Thanks,

Rich,
I logged this in my database a couple years ago as belonging to your user ID. Would love to capture your phone number or email to get ahold of you quickly should I come across the transmission or kar. Are you still in Nashville?
Hi Evan,
Sent you an email with my info. Let me know if you don't get it

I guess the bronze bushings are used for free floating wrist pins, with the pro being less resistance? Any cons other than losing originality? Don’t have any experience with them.
Thanks,
Rich

Are you selling this?
Not right now. May swap or sell if owner of Kar or transmission shows up

Hi,
Think I'm going to drop a 63 5 bolt hipo in my I6, 3 on the tree 67 Fairlane. I have a rebuilt C4 for an I6 and power steering setup for the same, so had a few questions if anyone knows...
1) Is there a double crank pulley that will work with the hipo balancer and Power steering?
2) any tips on bolting up the c4 to the 5 bolt? I know I'll need a new bellhousing. Already have an automatic column.
3) any other 5 bolt gotchas, like starter differences, etc?
Thanks in advance,
Rich

This carb did not sell apparently, as the exact same carb is back for sale on eBay.
I notice this a lot when I search sold items on eBay. I don’t know if it’s shill buyers or deals gone bad.
Same vendor, same price, toe stamp pics below from one that sold and this one are the same.

Think a Mexican 302 with crank, caps, rods, pistons, balancer is worth $1000? Have the opportunity to buy one.
I see a couple short blocks on eBay for $899 each.
The rod bolts are only 5/16”, which may be normal for one? I don’t know.
If this is for hipo only parts, my apologies. Please move to the General Discussion, etc.
Thanks

I have this short block and heads listed for sale, and I realized I have “almost” enough extra parts to make a 2nd hipo motor. It was fun mocking it up, and makes me want to keep it just to have.
So a couple thoughts:
1). Is it more desirable to potential buyers as a complete engine, even if date codes are all over the place? I think I can make more selling each item…if they all sell, but it’s obviously more work
2). I really want to keep it. Lol. But it would help fund the repaint and restore of my 65 fastbacK.
Just putting this out there for discussion or comments
Thanks,
Rich
