Here's another used Motorcraft dual point HiPo distributor.

    DESCRIPTION:

Here we have a Motorcraft Dual Point Distributor for a 289 High Performance engine, commonly used in Mustangs, Fairlanes, and Cyclones. This distributor is free of excessive wear, and the lobes are still crisp to snap both sets of points open as originally designed. No excessive play in the shaft, this unit has no visible signs of gouges or repairs, and can be used as is, but would certainly be a beautiful candidate for a classic restoration.

This unit has a factory part number of C50F-12127-E. Standard distributors were equipped with a vacuum advance pod on the side, unlike these high performance units, which offered no vacuum advance. This unit has not been modified to disguise a removed vacuum unit.

This auction is for a set of used HiPo rods and pistons...

    DESCRIPTION:

Up for auction is a very nice, original set of lightly used 289 high performance connecting rods (C3AE), and Ford pop-up high compression pistons. Pistons are the original units available through the Ford "Muscle Parts" program of the late Sixties. They can be used with stock HiPo heads for awesome compression, or with 351 Windsor C9OE or DOOE heads to regain stock compression. Still evident on the rods is the orange paint used at the factory to color code 289 high performance parts. The pistons are marked with FORD and C9OX on the inside of the skirt. They are STD size, not .030 over. One piston and rod are NOS. I also have one extra NOS RH piston to match that will be included. These units are very useable, but will need a standard reconditioning at the machine shop and new rings. These are sold "as is". Low reserve on these very hard to find pieces.

Here's an interesting set of rods with a BIN of $850.00.

    DESCRIPTION:

C9ZX PART #. this is the only set I've ever seen before that was made for the trans-am racer. It is the complete set with the balancer that is also rare and hard to find. These rods are much beefier than the original BOSS 302 or 289 HiPo rods. They will work on the 289 HIPO, and were built for racing high rpm engines that won the trans-am race. Very rare parts to find, so if you are building a vintage racer this is the set-up you need.

I just wanted to double check that I am reading the date code correctly on this distributor - January of 65?

That's the correct date code...although it looks a little rough, and is described as having play in the bushing, maybe you can buy it cheap enough so that the cost of refurbishing it won't bring the total cost too high.

This used FoMoCo dual point distributor SOLD for an amazing $355.00.

I'VE BEEN TOLD THAT THESE MAY BE BOSS 302 RODS AS THE 3/8" ROD BOLTS HAVE A FOOTBALL SHAPED HEAD, I'VE ALSO BEEN TOLD THAT THESE RODS FIT BOTH 289 AND BOSS 302 FORD ENGINES AND THAT THE FOOTBALL SHAPED HEAD BOLT IS THE STRONGER BOLT AND ROD. So what is the difference with the early C3DF distributors? I assume the advance curve may be different? Are they any different value or performance wise? I'd like to get a HiPo dual point for my car, preferably the correct Autolite 67 unit, but I'm not that picky. maybe my best bet is a Motorcraft replacement.

The C3OF series of dual point distributors came in two versions: C3OF-12127-F, the first 289 HiPo dual point distributor from 1963, which had a blocked-off (and empty) vacuum housing, and the C3OF-12127-D, which featured a recast body with no vacuum housing, and appeared late 1963. These distributors are slightly taller than the later, more common C5OF-E castings, and also have a cast-in oiler tube that is not present in the later distributors from 1965 and up.

The early C3OF distrubutors have slightly different advance curves than the C5OF versions. The price for a used distributor varies a lot these days, and the MOTORCRAFT and AUTOLITE Service Replacements can bring as much, and sometimes even more, than an original, date-coded FoMoCo version.

Am I right in thinking that is a august 69 distributor?? maybe a boss?

Actually, the date code 0H9 means August 9, 1970. It is the Service Replacement distributor for a 289 HiPo. The AUTOLITE stamp first appeared in 1967, along with a new casting number of C7OF-12131-A. The final Service Replacements appeared after September 1971, and are stamped MOTORCRAFT. The early 63-66 HiPo distributors are stamped FoMoCo, and ALL HiPo distributors are stamped C5OF-12127-E, except the 1963 and early 1964 units.
