not sure why you would want to. I have read that the same setup Zray refers to does NOT make a significant measureable difference on the dyno, but I'm sure there are many reporting different things. As for my personal experience on my fastback (not a HiPo, but built better than one), we ran the chassis dyno with and without the air cleaner assembly all together. The difference was about 1 HP. This was with the nicer reproduction style with a new element.

I heard a while back that the tri-y's made by Scott Drake will fit, and fit like they should.

I wasn't aware that Scott Drake made headers.

Interested info. When the new rebuild was fresh, I hated the way it shifted from 1 to 2, espcially when cold. It just didn't seem to want to go in. I reported this to the rebuilder who said it needs time for all the new parts to "mate" to each other. After a couple months with little/no improvement I asked him to switch to synthetic and he said it would be a mistake. It has sense improved a LOT, but still not perfect. An now, the 3rd gear thing..

Not even a car show, not even a planned gathering. Went to go visit a friend in his garage to drop off a massive 8'x7' wall mural of his Cobra, and when we left, look what we found parking next to us!! Yes, it's a real one, and it was cool to see the green and white '66s right next to each other. I think I need to arrange a proper photo shoot of these pair in the future.

According to my log book which goes back to day one she averages 12 to 15 in normal driving, best of 18.3 on a long trip. Stock motor, 4sp, 3:50 gear. Still seems to get close to that but I don't keep very close track of it. Here is a sheet from 1972, gas was around 40 cents!

    Somebody was having a good time on March 12th! <img src=images/icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

OK, I try not to concern myself with gas mileage when it comes to my Mustang - I know it's crappy, and I've never really bothered to figure out the exact gas mileage as it's difficult to fill my tank up the same way every time (You know the lovely overflowing issue we try to avoid).

However, this season I seem to notice that my Kar is especially thirsty as of late. I can't seem to go anywhere without using 1/4 of a tank of gas. It's starting to really annoy me and get expensive to take her out anywhere. She runs great, is in good tune, so what the heck? Is the gas really getting so bad? I fill up with non-oxygenated premium (91 octane).

For those of you who bother to keep track, what kind of observed gas mileage are you getting for mature street driving? I think I may be averaging in the single digits or something.

Lately, my Kar (toploader) has been acting strange upshifting and downshifting into 3rd gear. It isn't during hard driving, and it doesn't happen all the time (maybe 10% of the time?). I will feel a bit of resistance while the clutch is all the way down to the floor while trying to slide the shifter into 3rd. It feels like the clutch is not fully engaged or something, and it will then occassionally sort of "grind" a little. It's like something isn't lined up properly. Again, this happens intermittently and is more of a small nuisance at this point.

A few years ago, my 2nd gear synchros went to hell, and I couldn't get it into gear without a lot of effort at times. This problem feels a bit different as I don't have to push the lever hard - it just has a little resistance/grind to it at times. I did have the transmission pulled and professionally rebuilt a few years ago, including the shifter. I am not sure if ALL the synchros were replaced, or just the 2nd gear ones.

    Any ideas?

I most likely will attend the show, but doubt I would bring the '65 K convertible.

Ahhh...That would seal the deal for me if that beautiful Konvertible were to be scheduled for an appearance. That's what trailers are for - right??

Hey Jack - I guess that's my worry. Spend the money, carve out the time to go to a show that doesn't have any vintage Mustangs. Seems most of the shows these days are dominated by late model stangs. I understand your reasoning - I remember doing a 1000 mile trip in July in my convertible with heat index at about 100 degrees. Not comfortable, but memorable(:
