Model History: In 1965, only a discerning few customers ponied up for the top-of-the-line high-performance package on Ford’s iconic pony car. Popularly known as “K-code”—in reference to the special letter designation in the VIN of Mustangs so equipped — the package included a 289 cubic-inch V-8 engine rated at 271 horsepower and a medley of performance items for a whopping $442.60. Except for the $283.20 air conditioning, no other Mustang option had such an impact on buyer’s wallets, which meant that K-code production was understandably low.

The car’s solid-lifter V8 was not the average Ford small-block. Inside its over-square, four-inch cylinder bores were high-strength flat-top aluminum pistons. These were linked via heavy-duty connecting rods with strengthened rod bolts to a more robust cast-iron crankshaft with an enhanced front counterweight to maintain high-rpm balance. Each cylinder head had enlarged intake and exhaust valves, while the engine breathed through cast-iron, header-type manifolds and into a standard dual exhaust system. A Special Handling Group helped make the most of all the power with heavy-duty shocks, springs, and a front sway bar.

It fits specific Ford models and has undergone refurbishment to ensure smooth and efficient performance. The manufacturer part number is HEH-BX. This transmission is not a universal fitment and is not intended for use as a performance part. It is a vintage part that has been restored to its original condition, ensuring that it will function as intended in your classic Ford Mustang. Don't miss out on the opportunity to add this piece of automotive history to your collection. I sell about 2 top loaders per month, they are the ones I look for the most (HEH-T or HEH-BX). Some are stamped with the VIN on the bottom and some on the pad on the bottom. Most were not stamped by Ford. I offer a 6-month warranty on my top loaders. If there is a problem with the transmission, ship the item back to me and I will fix the problem and ship it back to you. I have never had one sent back to me which should give you some ease, but we are all human and mistakes happen. These transmissions are super tough and should give you many years of trouble-free use. This is a freshly rebuilt OEM 65-66 Mustang HIPO transmission. A few of them have the vin stamped either on the pad on the bottom or across the belly which I have had both but the vast majority of them have no vin stamped on them at all just like this one. This is a close ratio top loader and it has the C5 case the C4Z tail shaft. The tail shaft has some tape on there that is the bottom plug because it is too hard to move around with that plug in there. This is concours correct for a 65-66 HIPO car with a 289 in it or a 302 and it is ready to install. We do ship all our tranny's with no oil and the top cover is not sealed. We have a 6 month warranty on the transmission you just have to send it back and we will fix it. We've never had one sent back but its peace of mind. Thanks for looking at my transmission.
