Its a dark charcoal color available from most Mustang supply houses but I think the repop shade is slightly lighter than the original. Here are some pics my repainted wheel and spare which has the original insert paint which seems darker I dont know if its from age or the original shade was darker, hard to see in pictures.

Anybody in the Dallas area interested in attending, its the 1st Saturday of the month from about 8am to 12pm. I've been attending for a few months now and the amount (600+ cars) and variety of cars is quite interesting. Lots of Mustangs and Shelby's in attendance but more late models than vintage. Could be a fun morning get together, food and coffee is available.

Sniff, I can still smell the paint curing
This one has flipped a few times, came out of Wylie, TX the first time. What a butcher job, car needed too much work to be finished that soon and be done properly.
Mine was painted gray, I don't have a picture of it installed but I still have it in a box as a spare to be rebuilt.
The only dimension I find in the shop manual is the dimension between the trumpet and the opening trim "This dimension must be concentric within +/- 3/16 inch"
Here an example of Metuchen, looks like the same guy put the same care into both stampings. Letters are slightly larger than the numbers.
I believe the early '65 wheels where argent, the wheels on my '66 are dark charcoal, the main wheels where repainted in the 80's with the repop styled steel wheel paint which looks good but is not quite as dark as the original wheel in the trunk.
Hard to see but this is the car new in '66
I just used a pair of needle nose vise grips, came right off. Worked fine to tighten back up too. Used a rag to keep the jaws from marking the screws. Mine look like a phillips head but with three slots instead of 4, they are very thick which made them easy to grab with the vise grips.
If its a '65 "backup lights", my pace car had the same marking.
The Russo and Steele auction in Scotsdale suffered some heavy damage from the storms. A few Mustangs and Shelbys where among the cars unfortunately damaged. One of the huge tents was carried clear off the site on the the highway nearby.
I know Pirelli was making radials in the sixty's I have some old magazines that show them.
This is a '66 Metuchen Kar ordered new with a rally pac. Standard red int. it came with a black Rally Pac.
