Convertible Top Hard to Close

  • My 66 GT-K has a pretty new manual (not hydraulic) convertible top (installed by the PO) and I've had it down all Summer. Now it's time to put it back up, temp is 60ish outside, but ... it will not travel far enough to engage the pin/hole locking locator.

Any suggestions; thanks for your help.

  • Have you tried letting the "almost closed top" sit out in the sun for awhile?

I had a Pick Up one time that had a soft tonneau cover (I know that's not a convert top) over the bed that I could never snap closed unless it set out in the sun for awhile.

  • "ProudKowner" has a good suggestion that I have used. It will also help to unzip the rear window until you get the top itself to fit. Then you can zip up the rear window as you will be working with less matrial to stretch. Fortunately, I only had one Mustang convertible with a manual top. All of the rest were power and even then, raising the top after a long hibernation can be tough.
