Completely original interior (including original no-crack dash pad and deluxe steering wheel). Original am radio works.
Fully documented 2 owner car (original dealer order form, invoice, window sticker, owners manual, service protecto-plate, 1.25 build sheets, receipts for dealer's parts counter purchase)
Complete #s matching drivetrain - When I purchased the car in July 2022, it showed 44,375 miles on it and I have no doubt that is correct. I purchased the car from the original owner (non-running) and the car had been sitting in a garage in Chandler AZ for 31 years (after the death of her husband). Due to the length of time the car had been sitting and not knowing how hard it was driven, I chose to rebuild the motor. The block has stamped serial numbers, heads are original & date coded (Driver’s side is a “20”, passenger side is a “21”). I have photos of all engine internals, date codes, etc. All machine shop receipts. I believe the transmission to be original, but I did not locate the VIN stamp. I am sure it is there.
Other specific K Code parts:
Carb - The original Autolite 4100 (C6ZF-C) carb restored by Gotta Fish Carbs
Fuel Pump - original 4201S fuel pump restored by Fred Ballard
Harmonic Balancer - Original C5OE balancer restored by Damper Doctor
Water Pump - restored C6OE-A dated coded hipo water pump
Alternator, Voltage Regulator - Purchased correct stampings/restored from Chargers Auto
Radiator - Original. When the original owners moved to AZ in 1986, they removed this and installed a larger desert cooler and air conditioning. They kept all of the original parts in a box with notes written on it. I removed the non-functional AC and re-installed all the original parts.
K Code Fan - Original
Dual Point Distributor - Original
Glass - all glass is original with the exception of the windshield.
Original 1966 spinner hubcaps (3 of 4 are in outstanding shape - one has curb rash. All were pulled off the car and boxed in the late 60s).
The car is a time capsule in amazing condition. I had the paint professionally cut and buffed. The original owner installed over the counter Ford stripes on the hood and trunk. Those were peeling and had to be removed for the detail work. You can see that the car had the stripes due to original paint fading around them. The trunk stripes have some adhesive residue that my detailer was hesitant to cut any deeper. There are a few door dings and rock chips, but it is almost 60 years old.
The car was undercoated from the dealer at purchase and they did a thorough job. According to the original owner, the car was never used for daily commutes or in bad weather. It was always garaged. This car would be an ideal candidate for dry ice treatment underneath.
The car has "day 2" mods that I have not changed. Traction bars were added early in the car's life. It was an original non-power drum brake car. I replaced those with a restored correct set of Kelsey Hayes disc brakes that would have been used on a GT in 1966. The only other items I replaced were the gas tank and exhaust.
I recently restored and re-installed the 8k rally pak. The car was not originally built with one, but I have the receipt from the dealer's parts counter from summer of 1966 where the original owner purchased it and had it installed. The stripe kit is also on that receipt.
I have much more of the story on this car. There are no stickers under the hood. The dealer order form specifically states "no stickers". The car was specially ordered with Firestone 500 white wall tires. I have 2 of them, and the original owner’s last name is written on the back of one of them in grease pencil. There were Playboy bunny stickers on each door, but that is another story all together…..
The car is dialed-in and drives great. I drive it regularly. You can tell the car has never been apart by the way the doors open and close. The suspension is tight and the car handles great.
I realize this is a long description, but as you are aware, the value in K Codes is in the details. Original paint cars that are completely numbers matching and completely documented are a rare find. I can send you photos or a link to a Google photo drive to 140+ photos (including the day I pulled it from it’s long term resting place). Email me at azbeneman@gmail.com. The car is located in Albuquerque NM.
