Picked up a C8OE-A block, cast date 7F21, with hipo internals, hipo cam, etc. Seller said it was from a Shelby guys collection, and he thought it might be a service replacement block. I think it’s a block someone added hipo parts to.
I know Cleveland began using their C8OE-A 302 blocks for 289s in mid 67 (May/June) as the C5AE-E blocks ran out, which is right in this one’s time frame. Has anyone ever seen a legit C8OE-A hipo, or was it possible to order a hipo short block over the counter, and maybe Cleveland used the C8OE-A?
This one has no VIN, but hipo caps, rods, crank, and cam. Rods and crank have orange paint. Nylon tooth cam gear with regular 289 chain and crank gear, although had a hatchet, hipo crank gear, and C8 balancer separate.
Doesn’t look like the caps were added but going to check again.
Just interested interested in opinions.
Thanks,
Rich
