Here we have a new offering of one of several K code Dual Point Distributors available at our shop. This auction is for the pictured Motorcraft 289 High Performance unit which were offered as stock in Mustangs, Fairlanes, and even Cyclones. The Hipo cars were equipped with a pair of points to increase fire to the ignition system as a performance enhancement. The factory K code distributors were built without a vacuum advance and offered 3 different castings which were FoMoCo or Autolite and as is offered here in this auction a Motorcraft version in ready to enjoy shape.
Standard single point distributors were equipped with a vacuum advance pod on the side which modified the timing curve at times of heavy acceleration. Performance distributors offered no vacuum advance because they were designed for high demand frequently and having the extra points fire aided in making more horsepower. This stock unit has not been modified or even blocked off to disguise a removed vacuum unit as was often offered on many of the rebuilt units.
This unit has a factory part number C50F-12127-E with a date code stamping of 8C27. This recently rebuilt distributor has seen very little use and is free of excessive wear. The center lobes are still crisp to snap both sets of points open as originally designed. There is No excessive play in the shaft, this unit has no visible signs of gouges and or repairs. This ready to install piece can be used as is, but would certainly be a easy candidate for a beautiful classic restoration.
Keep in mind this is just one of a grouping of over a dozen factory original dual point distributors we currently have in stock for 289 / 302 , 351 C, 406/427 & 429 CJ.
