More GREAT stuff Brant!!!! Again, Bravo to you!!!!!!
Are these Ford Licensed??
No need for Ford License. There is no Ford Trademark associated with them.

Scott Drake makes these. I'm working with him on getting original samples for other colors. I sent some convertibles too.

Honestly, you don't really need a special tool. Something like the right size punch will do.
I agree with most - I would not restore an original data plate. No matter how bad an original looks, I would just leave it alone.

Hate to be a nit picker but whats up with the brake line bracket being for single exhaust? located on the body and the body plug on the firewall were the choke cable runs thru... Big Al
No problem, Big Al. The rear brake line bracket is in what everyone considers the "single exhaust" location. You will find this on earlier production cars. This car does not even have the indention (provision) for the bracket that is more commonly seen on the later dual exhaust cars. I would be curious as to when the change was made. I've posted here before about it with pictures, but I never received any feedback from early owners. I'd like to hear about this subject from other owners of K Mustangs built anytime in 1964.
Concerning the body plug in the choke cable hole in the firewall, this car is going to be equipped with a 3 x 2 carb. set up. I have a set with Sept. 64 dated carbs., so I just wanted to use it. These set ups did not use a manual choke. As a dealer accessory, I just had to think about what someone would have done in 1964 when this set up may have been installed on a new (or almost new) Mustang. Well, to make it a really clean installation, I guess the choke cable may have been removed and saved, and the hole may have been plugged in some manner. It's just a choice that I made. I also am installing the open letter Cobra Valve Covers and Cobra "roadster" oil pan. I hope to have some good pictures of the engine soon.
Thanks for the questions.

Brant,
Thanks for the update, the car is looking fantastic!
Dave
Thanks, Dave. The details are starting to drive me a bit crazy, but it is fun learning something almost every day even after being "into" Mustangs for 30 years. Some of the things that have come up on the internet, particularly from Charles, have really made us look at some finer details.
It is difficult to believe that we are going to start a new project right after this one, but it may be even more fun.

Another photo update has been posted:

The doors are on, most of the wiring is in, and several other items installed. Loading the doors with the window parts and glass is next.

I guess it is not really relevant to this site since the HiPo's are 65-67, but the 1970 Mustang gas tanks did not come with drain plugs. We just got those in for those guys.

We have carried them for quite some time.

It is my understanding that (Dearborn) used the smaller clips for the engine feed harness on the back of the brace and if the car was a convertible with POWER top they added 2 more, I haven't seen these smaller clips reproduced and the originals are a bit hard to find.
Are these the clips?

I would also be interested in learning the date code on the distributor that you have. I may have something to trade.

Brant,
It's one I got from either NPD or local Harris Mustang about 4 yrs. ago. Has the FORD logo and is non-emissions.
It looks nice but my complaint is the stamped steel 'keeper strap' inside the bore is made from soft steel and bends. It's either too tight and won't press on (binds) or too loose and flops around. Basically has zero grip.
The originals, as I recall, have a spring steel strap that grips the ID of the filler tube by always applying outward pressure.
If yours has the spring steel keeper strap, I'll order one.
Let me know and thanks for the reply!!
Mark
Mark,
You are correct. I remember the ones that did not work and the clips broke. I think they may still be around.
The ones that we have from Scott Drake are super nice. The clips are spring steel. You have to tweak them on the first installation, and then there are no problems. They fit all original valve covers along with the chrome and Cobra reproductions. Probably the only valve covers that they will not fit are the Ford Racing Cobra Black Wrinkle painted valve covers. At least at one time, the oil filler tube was slightly too big on these.

Charles is correct-no exhaust manifold to head gaskets. We always have our manifolds check and/or machined flat (very little material if any is removed) just so they fit to the head with no leaks/problems.

I guess i'll have to live with my junk re-pop until a NOS one comes up for a reasonable price.......
Mark
Which reproduction do you have? Both reproduction chrome push on caps that we carry for 65-66 models with the FoMoCo stamping are far from "junk." In fact, they are extremely nice. There are a few out there with problems though.
-
Charles is correct. The "red dot" one is a replacement style cap that was available from Ford and Motorcraft. It was available for years and was just a nice cap that worked and was chrome plated. It was never an assembly line part (or at least it wasn't on the 65-66 cars.) We used to sell a lot of them in the 1980's when that was the only new chrome cap available.
