I just aquired a 64-1/2 K code with a production date of June 10th and a VIN # 5F07K161273. All the info I have found states the production started in June of 64. Does any one know the specific date or maybe if mine was one of the first 10 or 20?

I know this is an old thread, but I just wanted to give you some more information. I have the engine only from 5F07K135973. I don't have the casting date from the block right now, but I know the assembly date stamp on the block is June 18, 1964.

Brant, I have an 8/64 rebuilt Hipo water pump. The closest that I have to a 7/65 is a 3/65.

What casting number and date code are you looking for on the timing cover?

    -Fred-

    Fred,

I would be interested in both water pumps. The timing covers are for the same car/dates. They are both HiPo Mustangs.

    Thanks,

    Brant

I also just sent you a "direct" email through the forum.

    Looking for some not-so-rare parts:

Aluminum Water Pumps (orig./rebuildable) with date around/before 8/64 and one with date around/before 7/65. Also could use a good front timing chain cover.

289 starters (just case is fine) with date before/around 8/64 and one with date around/before 7/65.

Drum Brake Master Cyl. (rebuildable) with date before/around 8/64

    Thanks,

    Brant

My 66 has 3x2 installed and I plan on removing them and putting the 4v setup back on. Mine is an original FOMOCO item purchased in 66 by the original owner. If pictures and measurements will help let me know.

    Gary,

Did you ever have a chance to take some pictures? I'm particularly interested in the pump to carb gas line and the pcv valve hose set up and fitting(s) at the intake.

    Thanks,

    Brant

My June 8th 64 build date 64.5 K coupe has a single exhaust brake hose bracket that is factory spot welded in the single exhaust location to the floor pan and a second brake hose bracket which the brake hose was attatched to the left of it in the usual dual exhaust location that was hand welded to the floor pan, the other single exhaust bracket has no whitness marks from a brake hose ever being attatched to it ,the car still has the original floor pans and duel exhaust support plates behind the rear seat. Chuck.

    Chuck,

That's some interesting information. I assume it uses the HiPo style rear brake hose also.

Obviously, there were some variations on that brake hose bracket location on these early cars.

    Thanks for responding.

Does anyone have an early (before around mid 8/64) K Mustang with the original rear brake hose?

Most of us are familiar with the rear brake hose and the bracket location on the car of a K or GT Mustang. The single exhaust cars "bracket location" was more in the transmission/driveshaft tunnel. The "bracket location" that I am referring to is where the end of the hose attaches where the front to rear metal brake line attaches.

I have an 8/64 HiPo Conv. with the "bracket location" like a single exhaust car. The car is definitely correct. I'm just not sure which rear brake hose was used (the Dual Exhaust one or the Single Exhaust one.) Anyone ever seen this on an early car?

I should also mention that this is a Dearborn car.

    Thanks for looking.

I wanted to stress that in my opinion the "RAYLON" material that ACC now uses is far superior to the previous 80/20. But that is just me - and I am not sure if ACC is still using the old product they called 80/20. Maybe someone from ACC will happen to catch this post and fill in the details for us. Anyone have a connection?

    John,

They only use Raylon (or Nylon for the 69-73 models.) We do not have a choice between 80/20 and Raylon. Before your carpet was ordered, I just double checked that it was definitely all Raylon instead of 80/20. BTW, we used to have fading problems with certain batches of the old 80/20 many years ago also. I don't believe you will find this happening with the Raylon.

    Gary,

I would love to see some pictures of your original set up, particularly the PCV hose fitting in the intake, the fuel pump to fuel log line, the block-off 3 hole block off plate at the back of the intake, etc. Let me know if you have photos online, can post here or would rather email them to me.

Thanks for your offer and reply.

I tried several of those pans from both Branda and Virginia Mustang. No luck with quality or fit, and I finally gave up and stuck with the original pan. I don't know if Blue Thunder is casting those, but they are pretty rough, and the gate hinges weren't well done at all. Branda said they were making their own, but I couldn't verify it.

We have never handled these oil pans, and I have no experience with the fit of these repros. You may want to contact the guys at Cobra Automotive and ask them about the different ones on the market and the fit. They (Cobra Automotive) actually work on the cars and would know any issues with quality and fit of any of the pans available.

    Thanks for the post, John.

Many of you know John. For those who do not, he is just a great guy and a true automobile enthusiast. I just admire the fact that he has such beautiful cars, yet still drives them everywhere. I think that we may have met at a show in the early '80's and still stay in contact. Too bad he does not live closer to Virginia! It's just fun to "talk cars" with someone like that. It starts with the cars, but it really is all about the people. I've made tons of friends by being in this hobby.

So both styles of cowl covers are available for 65? Wiper pivots changed about mid way through '65.

Dynacorn (manufacturer) advertises that they are the late '65-66 type, but we have not gotten any yet-always on backorder.

    John,

I've seen ones re-chromed (stainless and all.) They are not really correct since the SS part was not originally chrome plated also, but they usually look good. Re-chroming the whole thing is really the only way that I think you can do it. I'll probably be doing this on my next restoration. If you want to try or look at one of the reproductions, let me know.

I would suspect that you would be happier with a nice original. They are getting more difficult to find though.

    Brian,

The 65-66 Cowl Assemblies have been advertised by the manufacturer, but they are currently out of stock. We do not have an expected delivery date, but will have them when they become available.

We have not even listed them or given them a part number yet. We will do this when we are able to get some.
