Richmond Engines ( http://www.richmondengines.com ) just finished my K motor, the stock Rods were mismatched but in decent overall shape, so I kept them but decided not to run them, went with a eagle I-beam rod and Mahle pistons, about 300 grams lighter then stock per hole...

The heads had been worked in the 70's when the engine was last rebuilt, but they had done a pretty bad job by todays standards. Fortunately the guys at Richmond Engines were able to fix most of the damage.

For the cam we went with Comp Cams nostalgic K-Code grind, lunati solid lifters with offset oil hole, true roller rockers for heat reduction, and for now, until I can get the stock distributor looked at, I am running a MSD ready to run, distributor. The stock dist with pertronix made 260hp peak, plotting the graphs over each other, pertronix starts to die around 5000rpm.

The motor makes peak power at over 6000 rpm but has a nice flat torque band from about 3500 rpm and up... ( approx 300ftlbs )

At the sacrifice of some power, we elected to go 9.5:1 compression due to the poor quality of gasoline these days... had we run some dome top pistons at around 11:1 it would have been a beast...

Peak power was 330hp in the 6000-6400rpm range...

The K-code autolite 4100 made 318HP, and a new holley 600 made 330HP, we are sending CFM/AF ratio charts to a holley shop to rebuild my 66 shelby 715 holley for the car...

If anyone wants to know more, shoot me a message, I will post some video/audio once the engine is in the car with the somewhat incorrect Arvinode exhaust...

Wow, thanks for all the info, I am not really all that concerned about how correct it might be on my 66 GT K Fastback, but more interested if it will physically fit/work.

I love the sound of the Arvinode exhaust, and while its about twice as much as the "correct" replacement kit from NPD, it is a neat conversational piece and completely reversible.

I am shooting to have the car back together by early August this year and I am collecting the last bits of parts needed.

    Here is some recent shots...

I have an employee that could likely convert whatever is needed.

mail me at stephan at rackco dot com

and I will get him to do it, I also own a web hosting company and design company, so if we need any help in those areas, I can assist.

Vbulletin is nice, especially with the newly added community features, like gallery/blog etc.

For all you people with k-codes that have rebuilt them recently what is the target compression ratio you shot for, and how did it work out for you?

I will thinking in the 9.50-10.00 area would be good for 94 octane pumpgas...

Also, it seems my rods have been kinda pieced together with numbers dumpilcated and missing on the stampings... the engine builder is suggesting I just put them in a box for now and run some equivelant Eagle Rods...

What are your thoughts on this?

And finally, are any of your running the COMP CAMS Nostalgic 289 HIPo Cam? I was going to go this route with some oiling ( centerhole lifters ) and stock sizes roller rockers...

Thanks in advance for your advice...

BTW this is for my 66 K GT 4spd 3.5rear

That's a typical place to find a build sheet on a Metuchen-built car. So far, I've found two build sheets in mine. One was neatly folded and tucked under a seat cushion spring, and the other one was taped to the wiring harness like yours was. Great stuff!

    Front or rear seat?

Just curious, what assembly plant built your car?

6T09K ( same as yours ) and I think only our plant used Buck Tags

The Arvinode exhaust system was discontinued in early 1965, so it wouldn't be "correct" for a 1966 Mustang, but that doesn't mean you couldn't put one on your car...

Yes I am sorely tempted... sounds bada$$

Based on Registry Data, or factory ordering info still available, does it sound correct or incorrect, that by default 1966 K Codes were all GT's?

My local mustang parts supplier is trying to tell me that by default All K Kars were GT's and if you wanted a non GT K you had to factory order the delete?

This seems very odd to me, and I think he might be on crack, does anyone have any idea what % of K Fastbacks were GT's in 1966?

My build sheet is in rough shape and the line worker was not shy to use lots of that tape, and sure enough the box that flags the GT status is damaged though i can definately make out something typed there... I also have a buck tag that has PIO...

From my build sheet I was able to confirm the car, which for some reason made me feel good... It's door tag info is correct and matches the build sheet, also it was optioned with Styled Steel Wheels, and Double Red-Lines, and a wood steering wheel. My car has a rally pack on it, and looks very original to the car, but I am not sure what box on the build sheet would have contained that.

I will look for a second build sheet this weekend.

Under Tires I have size C and Type 5

Under WHL CVR I have 3

Under OPTION SEAT/DELUXE STG WHEEL I have 7

Pretty sure in the GT GROUP box I have a 6 but its damaged.

I really like this new exhaust system you guys re-created, but I guess it would be really incorrect for my 13J build date?

Car has buck Tag and has Nevada Title from about 10 years back claiming 72,000 actual miles, car has about 77,000 now.

I am wondering, my k-code engine seems to fall flat like any other 289 at around 5000 rpm... do any of you actually rev your k-codes and if so, do they pull hard to 8000 rpm?

The Engine has all the correct internals, and is running headers, and a holley carb... I would guess its running out of fuel, or air, or spark ( timing )...

    I guess getting a look at the plugs ( color/condition )

    Bench testing Distributor for advance

Check fuel pressure for major drop off...

And carburator operation, would be good first steps...

Any other ideas would be appreciated, I dont often drive it hard, but I would like to take it to the nostalgic drags once or twice a year.
