My thinking is that back in the day (1965) Ford somehow figured out that they were spending too much on the emblems and sought out to make them cheaper for 1966-that said I believe that if I had a '66 GT that I would stick with the '66 GT emblems.

Thanks! any idea where I can get the T9? is there more name involved to ask for?

Thanks guys!! I think I'm going to leave well enough alone....with my new reproduction tires....and leave the Chevy folks to their own...
-
Should the manufacturers sticker be left on the spare tire in the trunk?-I kind of think so.....I know my Wife's Chevy folks want to see the sticker......

Great to hear about a good shop and good guy!!

Charles, When you say regular emamal-would it be a semi-gloss or gloss finish? and would I be ok in removing the locks and cleaning them up well and painting them with a high heat spray? would you recomend a good heavy coat to try & make them look as if they were dipped or just a light coat to make them look like they were just misted as the engine was painted?
-
Good point jwc: I'm thinking that the black high temp paint would be better though.....I wonder what the factory used to dip some of those locks as Charles mentioned?

Quote from bigal
The manifold locks and tabs in order to get them off of the engine you have to drop the manifolds. the bolts don't come out unless you do that
OK, I stand corrected then.....I thought it would be a fairly simple procedure (If I wanted to just replace the locks) to bend the tabs flat & away from the bolt heads so I could put a wrench/socket on the bolt heads and remove the bolts THEN remove the locks....there must be some part of the locks that are under the manifolds then that I am not seeing...
BTW: I like Charles' suggestion that some were apparently dipped in black paint prior to installing them....may be I can get a new set powder coated in a high heat black to look the same.....
-
Just to be clear I am speaking about the LOCK TABS rusting NOT THE MANIFOLDS themselves.
Thanks for the suggestion of the oil & steel wool........I guess you mean that I can use this method for the locks?
-
The reproduction exhaust manifold locks on my engine are just starting to rust a bit, how should I deal with this? get new ones and have them coated with something that will stand the heat and not rust? or car I do something with them on the engine?

I am not real familiar with the proper name of what the shop that repaired my block called it but it is very labor intensive and mine cost $350.00 alone, lots of drilling and tapping then a piece is screwed into the threadded hole and its made to twist off once it bottoms out-mine took around 20 of these things to complete the repair and my engine has been together for easily 9 months without problems.
-
My block was cracked in the very same place-(the correct VIN stamped block for my Kar) and it wasn't caught by the first shops so-called magnafluxing that I paid for-it was caught when my restorer had my engine filled with coolant and pressurized that the somewhat large crack was found BEFORE the engine was dressed and put into my Kar....anyway the crack was successfully fixed and will never show from the outside because of where it is located.
I thought this was better than a replacement block would have been....

Thanks Fred!! This is what I thought, I've seen a few cars at the shows with the medallions on them and wondered what the medallion ment...

I am understanding that the "Cobra Kit" was a dealer installed option/kit consisting of possibly cams, valve covers, carbs, ect and there was a unique emblem also attached to the car when the kit was installed by the dealer in the 60s....anyone have more info on this? I've seen several cars at shows with the emblem but never really understood what the mechanical part was all about...

We bought one direct from AAB for our '57 Chevy, and my restorer picked one up in Hudson, Ohio for my Kar.....the sealed ones with the Optima inside are about $300. shipped here is a link to their site:
