The head is cast 65, has a date of 6M22 and is drilled and capped for smog. This is a little confusing as I thought the smog heads were C7 castings or later. Is this style correct for a 67 engine? Also I'll be looking to find a mate for this head if that's possible.

Go to "general discussion" and look under downloading photos. I had the same problems.

Has assembly date of 7B15C. The only other stamp on the block is located on the passenger side next to the water pump. It's stamped on a flat boss "7AB4-289HP-360". The only other cast is the C5AE-6015E. Has original Ford not Mexican caps. Rods have some material ground off bottom (balancing?). Has counterweight (hatchet) with balancer dated L6. One hipo head dated 6M22, the other non-hipo but has screw in studs and the hipo spring set. Also removed a C6OE 6 vane 3 hole cast iron pump, S7MS intake, and open letter covers. Thanks for responding, I'd post some photos if I could figure it out.

I'm breaking down an engine I believe to be a 67 Hipo. It's a C5AE-6015E casting but lacks a casting date as usually found above the C5AE. I also checked for a VIN along the pan line, found nothing. The bottom end has the hipo rods and correct main caps. It has a windage tray attached to the journal bolts. Looking over the crank I don't see a smooth spot on the rear journal for the binnel test but it does have several ping marks (2), along the edge of the journal. I found no triangle with the hardness numbers, although the crank is still in the motor along with everything else. The only thing I found on the crank is DRE 637 stamped on the first journal (front). Also did the hipo have a specific oil pump? This one appears to have a date mark 6B with a tag HM68 and an S stamped on the bottom plate. Any help with more identifers or where to look would be appreciated. Thanks

Could someone direct me to the link for downloading photos on this website?

Well, for sure on one side it had two holes as you can see where someone had removed the center, fairly nice job, but evident that someone had did some grinding. The other side appears smooth but I suppose it could have also had the center casting ground out.

Hey, those Fairlane guys will pay it, I think at that price they would be a steal!

Is the S7MS-9424A a reproduction intake manifold? I don't find a ford part number or any other identifers on the intake. Thanks

Whoa, please enlighten me to the specifics on the existance, or not, of a hipo radiator for the 64 Fairlane. I've used a 3 core unit for the past 20 years. I bought it many years ago when starting my restoration, I know it's non-original. Can you give me more information on the type of radiator used in the hipo fairlanes? Maybe I can get by with just purchasing the correct date coded tanks and use my core? Any info appreciated, Thanks, Terry

Gary, send me an e-mail at ltatro@verizon.net, I can attach and send to your regular e-mail address. I'd be glad to send you as many detailed photos of the engine bay, or any others, you might need. Terry

Keep an eye out on e-bay for the generator pulley, I've seen a couple over the years. Also check the Galaxie website's as I believe the 406 and early 427's used the same generator pulley. Mine came off a 406. I've had several of them (pulleys) over the years but sold them. Single stage enamel paint on the exterior. I used glasurit by BASF and it still looks like it rolled out of the paint booth even after 20 years. Red oxide on the underbody. Gold valve covers and air cleaner with chrome dealer option available in 64. Let me know what other parts you might need, I still have a few items left but most of the good stuff (hipo) is long gone. If your looking to have a driveshaft replaced I'd like to recommend D&R Driveline Inc. I just picked mine up today and they did a GREAT job. New custom shaft with U-joints, balanced, even clear coated it, out the door for $160. They do everything from narrowing housings, custom axles, etc. etc. etc. They are a great group of guys to work with and really go out of their way to help you out. Just received and installed my new shifter from Heeley. Reasonably priced and top notch quality.

I went with Shell Rotella for break-in and switched to Valvoline VR. The Valvoline VR (according to their techs) has a sufficient amount of ZDDP for valvetrain protection.

I had Mike do my Hipo carb last winter. He did a very nice job, priced about the same as Pony. I would only say that if you are in a hurry, the turnaround was quite long. He's certainly very knowledgeable and has been in the business since the 60's, 70's.

Marv, those were certainly the good old days. Nash always had a driveway full of bad ass Fords. His Bronco Buster was awesome. There was always Shelby's, big block Galaxies, and an occasional Cobra hanging around. Back then I would have been the nagging 14 year old kid with the brush cut riding his Schwinn 10 speed.
