Good! If this car is worth $27,500 then mine is worth at least double that, maybe $60,000 or so. Anyone interested? It's not really meant as a joke, the way prices are going it will soon be at leat that.

I don't know for sure and I didn't research it but I've seen original cars with GT stripes that didn't match the interior color. A black car with black interior, red car with red interior, green car with green or black interior and several other color combinations, many of which are fairly common, would have to have a GT stripe that contrasted witht the paint color, therefore could not be the same as the interior color or the stripe wouldn't show. Seems like a car could have been ordered with some choice in color of the GT stripe but there may have been some sort of standard depending on the paint and interior colors.

It was my understanding GT stripes are to match the interior color?

Clearly this car is misrepresented, either because the owner doesn't know, although he apparently works for a big car dealer, or wants the car to seem something it isn't. There are obvious discrepencies that have already been discussed and others that I am suspicious about but since I can't examine the car in person I won't get into it. Anyone interested in buying this car should have it examined and appraised by someone knowledgable about Mustangs and not accept what the seller says without verification, but's that's always true when buying an expensive collector car. Since the car is an older resoration I would want to know just what's there and what was done, there are some questions about that I'd want answered. This may be a case of an older restortion not done very well or correctly that actually lessens the value of the car, compared to what it would be had nothing been done, to me anyway.

I would have to agree that there is a good possibility the K-code Mustangs are going to keep right on going up and at a pretty rapid rate. They are very desirable cars what with all the interest in the new Mustangs and the Shelby cars and their tremendous price jumps. Selling a good K-code anytime in the last couple of years has cost the seller a lot of appreciation. Any decision to sell a Hipo has to be month to month and based on what's going on in the market, both for classic cars and the economy in general. What goes up usually comes down, there is usually at least a price correction period. Don't want to sell too soon but don't want to wait until the bottom drops out either, if indeed that ever happens. I love the vintage cars but it has to be an ecomomic decision to some extent also.

So buy the car for the $36,000 asking price and restore it to original. Do as the seller suggests and sell off the "Shelby specific" parts which he thinks would bring enough money to pay to return the car to original. Yeah, right. This car is unrestored. The car will never have the original block in it even if you do find a date-coded 289 and have all the proper date-coded K items to put on it. You could paint it to the original silver-smoke but is that going to be enough? Is the "original interior" nice enough to satisfy? I doubt it. How about the undercarraige? Probably needs the whole load there, suspension, brakes, etc. and who knows what all else. I don't know what the "Shelby specific" parts are worth but my shot-in-the-dark guess is you would put at least $10,000, and if you even half-way do it right more like $20,000 in this car. So you'd only have about $45 to $55 grand in it. It would bother me more than a little to have that much money in the car and not have the original block in it and not do a complete restoration on it. I'd be more inclined to just leave it like it is, it's pretty nice, but it would have to be under $25,000, well under in my opinion, but I suppose in today's inflated market someone is going to pay a lot more for it. That's fine with me, makes my car worth even more than I've come to think it's worth these days! When mine hits $50,000 I'm going to sell it and it looks like it's just about there. I'd hate to part with it but that would just be too much money that can be put to better use.

8-tracks seem to sell around $250-350. They require a slightly larger hole in the dash, but if your dash has been cut, this is a slick way to fix it if you aren't concerned that your car didn't come with an 8 track originally. In addition, door speakers are required to be "correct", i believe they are 5x10?? There are a few better options for the door speakers.

Another cool thing is you can get a converter for the 8-track that will allow you to play casette tapes. And then there's a converter from casette to CD! When I had my fastback I could play CD's through the 8-track system, very cool. 8)

Thanks for the response, Charles. Do you know which door speakers are "original?" Mine has door speakers bought from Calif Mustang several years ago, I think they are JBL, but I don't know if they are a match for the originals, adequate replacements for the originals, similar or what. They are good speakers, sound a lot better than the AM in my other Mustang.

I have the converters you mention so could go to playing CD's thru the 8track but what I was wondering is if the fidelity, sound, etc. of the AM/8 track would be improved by having it modified internally as described in the Radio Man story. I don't know if I would do it anyway since I get kind of a nostalga kick out of playing the 8 track when cruising in the Mustang, since it has it's quirks and funny sound, you have to have one to know what I mean. I have about 100 8track tapes so no shortage of oldies to select from.

By the way, off the point, but does anyone have an old jukebox they want to sell? I', looking for certain ones. Thanks.

Apparently the AM/8 track stereos can be modified also. Anyone have one that was upgraded, if so what was done and what are the results. As much as I like the old-time sound and quirks of my 8-track, I might go for the upgrade to make it sound better.

The prices on the AM/FM radios are incredible. What is the AM/8-track going for these days? I haven't seen one for sale so have no idea.

Does anyone have a AM/8 track stereo? What speakers are in your car and are they original?
