There does appear to be a good bit of documentation. Setting aside the colorful seller narrative, it looks as if an investment was made to clone a Shelby then go to the local drag strip. Would agree with Fred that the accuracy of the time & speed is suspect.

For sale on ebay:
"1965 Ford Mustang Supercharged
RARE 1965 FORD MUSTANG SUPERCHARGED K-CODE 4-SPD"
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/…433285211075860
Looks like a nice early coupe; square edges on the sill plates, early style pedal pads and gas pedal.

How can the seller transfer ownership of a title without a car, and a car without a title? Seems like two problems there. Wonder how the Department of Motor Vehicles allows that to happen?

It's a neat car, but basically looks like a hipo sedan. If it were a factory racing car you'd think there would be more goodies and obvious signs. Perhaps Bob Mannel can contribute

It was interesting to note that there were 6 pace cars offered at the Mecum Spring Auction, including one of the few convertibles:

No sale with high bid at $300K.

This is a great topic and it would be terrfic if Craig would contribute to the thread.

Was there a poor guy standing there with his laptop looking for the digansostic plug?

Ultimately you're going to put a lot of work into the car, and the best return on your investment will come from using original sheet metal if you can get it. The idea of a donor car might seem steep at first, but it will pay off in the long run. The scrutiny these cars receive from buyers can have big impact on the resale value if it's done with repro parts vs. originals. I would agree with others who recommend you seek out a donor car if you can.

I'm amazed that folks think they can buy a car at BJ (with the premium) and then sell it on ebay and make money.

Is your car a concours restoration?

I'd love to have a car with a Paxton on it. Agree with Charles that the clone details are distracting it from being a great looking car.

I'm stunned they would take photographs with the exhaust system hanging loose like that!
-
Cool - would that have been a SA part or a dealer part? (Or both.)

The car is driven quite a bit and those are Diamondbck radials.
I haven't painted the car since I've owned it; going backwards on the mirrors hasn't been an option for me as it would mean having to weld up the deluxe holes and repain the doors.
-
Both questions relate to items changed by PO's:
The car was originally sold with a single standard side view mirror and a standard rear view. The last previous owner converted it to a pair of deluxe mirrors and a day/night rear view.
The black centers were applied by one of the early PO's and weren't correct for the car. Those wheels are replacements that were installed on the car when the originals were stolen in the '60's when the car was parked on the street in front of the dealership in LA (Klem Ford).
You may also note that the car lacks hood letters in the drag strip photos; the hood was replaced sometime in '60's when it was damaged.

There may be a demographic challenge limiting prospects:)

Great info, Tom! Thanks.
