I watched the 2010 intro on Speed last Tue as I recall. Once the programming got past all the lead-in junk, I thought the car itself was pretty well done.

Of course the real test is to see one in person. The link that kar-nut provided was especially good. I liked the interior restyling views. I'm not a fan of glass roofs however. Now if only the interiors had more than what, 3 basic colors (charcoal, gray and tan?) to choose from that would be really meaningful. Never have understood why Ford was so miserly on interior color offerings. I guess I was spoiled when the first gen Stangs hit the dealers. Seems there were endless interior colors/options to select from.

Beyond the '65 Hipo and '67 GTA F/B, I'm currently working a '69 M code mach 1. The other fun car (read toy) is an '04 Z0-6/Z-16. Daily driver duties go to the '02 Cowboy Cadillac (Dodge Dakota).

Yep, like the GT, the Pony Interior option included the 5 gauge cluster (in wood grain trim rather than camera case black for a standard interior GT) in '65.

What little can be seen/determined in the tiny pictures is encouraging. But other than one lonesome shot of the underside the rest is a crap shoot. What is under the paint is a real question as well. Obviously it is a Detroit produced car, but there is no mentioned of where the car has 'lived' over the years. Maybe the info is unknown or maybe it has been an east coast car which is known for its 'tin termite' environment.

I have a Fairlane VIN stamped engine in my car, so the non original engine in this Mustang would not be an issue for me, but for some it would be a deal buster. I knew when I restored mine it wouldn't have the value base of a mechanically original example. But that wasn't my goal anyway, but rather to have a great driver that one could motor-on say to Nashville in 2004 (which I did) or Birmingham in 2009 (which I will).

Still, if one had a trusted contact in the sellars location I'd reckon the car would be worth a critical look-see.

With the high production rates back in the day to keep up with customer demand, no doubt the production line(s) were zoo like. Perhaps the stamping was by a tired or disgruntled Ford employee who inverted what should have been a '9' to a '6' and just for good measure omitted the sixth digit of the vin sequence number.

I've used a Rust-Oleum rattle can red oxide primer for rusty metal that seems an acceptable color. One thing for certain; the stuff is as tuff as nails. The only downside is it does take a day or better to cure to the point where the part can be handles if that necessary.

Years ago I herded around a '69 Vette that had the factory, bone stock side exhaust. The sound was fabulous, but the droning at virtually all speeds was truly difficult to put up with over long distances, not to mention the radio was virtually useless. The ONLY relief came during those infrequent times when one went across an expansion bridge. Then, the sudden silence was remarkable, but short lived.

I currently have a 67 F/B GTA, San Jose, Oct 66 build, with chrome front & painted rear bumper guards. I bought a non GT 67 F/B new, also a San Jose car but a very late 67 build (the '68's were already out), that had the same bumper guard set up. I still have the window sticker on the car and no where does it list the guards as an option. It would seem guards were standard equippage. By the way, the guards on both cars also included the narrow rubber bump strips.

But Ford did offer what they called Equa-lock, axel code E for the 3.50 ratio. Other than nomenclature, what were the operational differences between the two?

I was faced with a similar problem with my Hipo. The entire drive line was from a Falcon. Started to gather parts to put together a Hipo equivalent engine. Fortunately, after shelling out 3/4 hundred bucks, I was able to find an almost complete 80K '65 Hipo Fairlane engine sans its' carb and timing chain cover, and later on a tranny from a Hipo Mustang coupe. Both VIN stamped.

I'd say stick with what you have. IMHO, a Heinze 57 Hipo w/stamped components trumps non geenie Hipo parts everytime.

If anyone will be in the Austin TX area on 2 August 2008, The Mustang Owners Club of Austin (MOCA) will be hosting their 28th Annual Round Up Mustang and Ford Show. Typically some 130 cars are on display. The event kicks off with registration at 8:30 AM and ends with trophy presentations at 2:00 PM.

Of course the bulk of cars will be Mustangs and all its' variants, but there is always a sustantial contingent of Falcons and a sprinkling of T-Birds etc. in attendance. Ocassionaly a few Model A's will be there, and one of our members owns an original unrestored 289 Cobra which often is on display.

We've never been rained out! But, the heat can be brutal in August. Still, shade abounds at the show location, The Great Hills Baptist Church on Jollyville Rd.

Stop by if your in town.

Consider Rust-oleum's Satin Black product #7777.

It's not lacquer based, does require a longer drying period, but does not seem as brittle i.e. more chip resistant than others.
