Then this poses an interesting question; what do they look like internally? Do you mean louvers like we have in the examples above? It would be worth a shot of the internals to see how they are configured. Your rear exhaust hangers are in great condition, and if those are original clamps then there's another mystery to unravel in the front mufflers; who made them, etc. I haven't found any aftermarket baffled units (yet) in the reaearch, but there's always a first time...[Blocked Image: http://i33.tinypic.com/2m4qh5j.jpg]

Here you can see some of the baffle material on the one I mangled

Here you can see a bit better how the two perforated stampings touched in the middle to form a type of X the length of the muffler. Looks like two chambers, with the gasses forced through the perforations to exit the bottom half at the other end?

Here is a sample of what I believe to be the original metallic redish brown paint.

Here is a quick sketch of what the baffle looked like.

my car would have had the Arvinode system when built but I think has the TSB replacement mufflers.

If you suspect yours was Arvinode, is it also a Metuchen car? If it is, the scheduled date and VIN could be helpful to me.

    Thanks,

Looks like you still have the original side-tab H pipe, but the glass packs and clamps are aftermarket.

The mufflers are actually not glasspacks, but have full steel baffles inside. 8) For sure they are replacements, but they did sound very nice.

Although it's been a few years since I checked, I believe the clamps at the H pipe to be original 5252 Ford production clamps...

I was actually thinking of a fictional situation where a 1965 HiPo Mustang pulls into the Ford dealer years after the TSB issue expired. The original Arvinode system is still on the car, but is rusted out and needs to be replaced. At that point, I'm assuming the dealer would install a "C6ZZ" exhaust system and HiPo H pipe similar to what I did on my car...

If he had left the Arvinode system on the car for that long, he probably liked it right? When one of my Arvinode type replacement mufflers developed an internal rattle, I replaced the entire system with a Motive oval muffler repop setup. Way to quiet compared to the previous Arvinode style... ;)

Interesting info. Mine is 5T09A146116, a 63A GT fastback. According to my build sheet, my scheduled build date of March 30th.

My car has unusual exhaust related anomalies, curious to see if any of the other similarly dated Metuchen K's have the same?

PS. My engine assembly date is 5C19F or possibly E.

Beg to differ but A code GT's could also have that same bumper plate.

I have also never heard of this? Could you be confusing the snubber plate with dual exhaust reinforcing plates under the rear seat?

I responded to your email Frank, I gave you a bunch of things to check for verification.

What are you doing for lunch tomorrow, I'm going to be out your way, maybe I could finally drop in to see it?

    All the best,
