How much are they really worth now, guys?

Charles I expected an educated reply from you. But I thought there was a reason I didn't use DOT 5 silicone fluid...wish I could remember what it was.
'Cause the brakes are more spongy with silicone?
Quote from Beagle1I did use DOT 3 Prestone Fluid which the label says is now silicone also. It must be, because I dripped some on the gear box and it didn't eat off the paint.
But the master still rusted in random spots, and most cars I look at have the whole thing a solid block of rust when the rest of the car is perfect. I only painted mine with clear engine paint. Not catalyzed paint, as I wanted the cast iron look since i have a dual master. I have since repainted with Eastwood cast iron and so far so good.
Mine has started to turn brown, so I'd like an answer too. Can ya' get them powder-coated?

It is beautiful, Terry. As with Gene, it brings back memories for me, too. I drove a ton of them off the line at the DAP back in '64. Every time I got in one of the hipos, I chomped at the bit.

I sent this thread to my son who worked as a "driveshaft" engineer when first out of the U of M engineering school. His response:
"This is kind of a cool idea...but you almost need a
full engineering team just to get the fine tuning of
the drive shaft angles correct.

Merlyn is right again.
Mine is at Mike Hagan Antique Radio repair in Pensylvania - should be back in a couple of weeks I think. I heard his radios at a couple of shows and they sound great and look good too.

...everybody that bought one was going to try just as hard as they could to blow it up as quickly as possible, so they wanted that number on there for warranty purposes.
Undeniable. Everything you said makes perfect sense.

So do I. Number 1.

John - I talked with one of the radio conversion company owners on Friday. He is familiar with the proposed new offering and told me that the new radios would be in the neighborhood of $300 and that they would not be as good as having an original radio converted to AM / FM. Just my 2 cents, but I believe him. I am going to have mine converted.
Of course, it will be more money by $100 - 150 plus I will likely have to have the bezel rechromed too.
-
I was planning to have my radio "modernized", but guess I'll wait until more information is available on the quality on this one. I'm guessing it'll be lighter than the originals are. If you have one on order, Murf, can you tell us the cost?
-
Murf - I suppose I'll have to buy a console, huh? We're all happy that you were our representative in this saga. I imagine that, once we've installed carpet, it cannot be returned, but I might try. I really have done nothing to it except cut out the shifter hole.
In the meantime, I ran across an old list of vendors in my area and a custom carpet place is listed. I'm going to contact them to get some idea of quality and costs.
-
I wish Ssnakeoyl would go into the carpet business. I'll send my note to ACC this week. For now, I am stuck just like many are.
-
I'll send him a note in the next couple of days. As for "positive feedback" following product improvements - that ain't hard to imagine at all. Even people who are not regulars to this site ask for recommendations - and you guys offer them up. Some recent positive recommendations: clutches, carburetors and distributor caps. Negatives: fastback seat trim, regulators and carpet. Man, if I bought a nice set of carpet, I might post a sign in my front yard.
-
They're making a ton o' money, but if they get any competition, they'll sink.

So why is it "high" on the shifter tunnel then? Sounds like you need to use a heat gun on the back side to soften up the mold so it will lay down.
I will try that in the spring. I already did some of that and discovered that you have to be carefule because the heat gun melts the carpet. The main point is that it is high because the quality of the product is poor - they cannot eve shape the carpet well enough. I sure wish an alternative was available.
-
I removed all of the jute that was cemented to the carpet back - replaced it with the Ssnakeoyl product. So, it is even on all floor panels, including the trans tunnel.
-
I am depressed now. I have not tried fitting the rear carpet in yet. The worst problem I have is that the front carpet is so high in the area of the shifter that I'm sure it will look awful when I put the shifter boot and retainer on.
I am learning to save old parts - even when they're skunky smelling.

Just my opinion - best part of these pictures is what appears to be a Thunderbolt...

Hmmm. I saw a carpet segment on one of the car programs. The show took place at the carpet factory and showed them molding carpet for Corvettes. Not sure what the company was, but I think they were limited to just a few models. It looked pretty impressive, but then again, maybe it was ACC for all I know.
