Brian - let us in on some of the details when you have a chance. We are always interested. (Also, register the car if you can.)

I bought a set today at Motor City Speed Shops (Livernois Engineering). For you Detroit area guys, they sell Hurst equipment. I'll check it out tomorrow when I go up north to put some miles on the car. The boot looks very nice - the bezel isn't even close to the Scott Drake one, but then Drake doesn't have Hurst Bezels.
Also, I think MWM is right - no lower boot for '65s, but I want to get soemthing that will work down below.

Mine arrived today, Marv. Same day as Michel's arrived in Spain. I have decided that the U. S. Postal Service does not approve of moving - though maybe a move to Spain would be okay - three weeks without mail. Book looks great.

Okay, thanks, Tom. I guess that's it. From looking at these (boot and bezel) I'd assume that the front two bezel and boot screw holes will match the original holes in the tunnel and that, without altering the tunnel opening, I would add two screw holes toward the rear of the car.
NPD sells or used to sell a Hurst-type boot that has an offset opening for the shifter lever.

Noel,
On my '65 with Hurst shifter, four speed and console, I got the top boot from Dallas Mustang. I have already split it after a couple of years of use.
I should have specified that I don't have a console. Surprisingly, my old boot (repop I'm sure) is pretty good - just skunky looking.
Quote from mwmI tried to get a bottom boot (my understanding is '65 did not have one, but wanted to try and keep junk out), but did not find anything that fit over the Hurst linkage.

Hmmm, I thought they all had a lower and thought I had seen it in the books. I'll look tonight if I get the time.
Anybody know about bezels for non-console cars with Hurst?

So, for you guys with Hurst shifters in 65s & 66s, where is the best place to buy a boot and bezel. I have an old boot and bought a Scott Drake bezel. Together, they fit the opening fine, but they do not allow the shifter to move into 2nd and 4th. Do I need rectangular shaped ones? I hontestly do not remember what my old setup was like when I first bought the car 12 years ago.

If you want pictures, Mustang Monthly did a "tech" article on it within the past few months.

...Was there a Mustang taxi?
Probably not! Remember, the 1965 Shop Manual is for Comets, Falcons, Fairlanes, and Mustangs. It's quite possible that there were fleets of 6 cylinder Falcons and/or Fairlanes taxis delivered in 1965, hence the reference to a taxi carburetor application.
There were '64 Fairlane taxi cabs produced. When I worked at Dearborn Assembly during that production year, we had lots of fleet vehicles come down the line, including cabs. I drove them off the line - as you can imagine, they were not nearly the fun to drive off the line as the hipos were.

I've recently purchased 6F08K and am putting it through a complete "ground-up" restoration.
You're in for a lot of fun... welcome to the site, Bill.

What a nice story. Welcome to the site.

I am a little surprised that no one seems to use a bubble. Too expensive?

Your posts have really been missed around here, Jerry.

Man, I have had zero mail in 2 weeks and 4 days ('cause I moved), but the post office can keep the rest if I get the new book. C'mon baby!

A friend let me borrow the book quoted below and I'm curious about the quote...
From "Shelby's Wildlife: The Cobras and Mustangs" by Wallace A. Wyss, 1977, p 46:
"Shelby-American employees used to get a kick out of the test results reported in magazines. In a September 1963 test Motor Trend reported it used a 7200 rpm redline. While he doesn't remember specifically, Phil Remington suspects the Motor Trend test car might have had a helper kit (roller tappets) "because the stock engine wouldn't hold together much past 6500 rpm."
Any comments?
PS. Cobra Jeff is credited with some of the photos.

I keep the outside of my MC covered with a light coat of WD 40. No more rust.
I just saw your post - I will put some WD 40 on mine tomorrow or Sunday. Thank you for the tip.

Centerforce Dual Friction Clutches
Clutch Kit, Metallic, 1 1/ 16 in. Diameter Shaft, 10-Spline, 10.4 in. Diameter Disc, Ford/ Mercury, Kit
10.4 inch was stock in the '65-'67 Hi-Po, so this would work, right? . However, Summit lists it as fitting the 84 to 93 Fords
I'm using the stock flywheel which I believe is 157 tooth
thanks,
Z. Ray
Yup - I have it in my car (though I seem to recall they told me there was only a 10", not a 10.4 or .5 inch) and love it.

Seller increased the min. bid amount to $369 now. Why continue to increase the minium bid. Why not start low and have people bid it up? If you're worried about getting a certain price, use a reserve.
Could the seller be testing the market?

Looks like a normal 289/302 smallblock to me.
Yup. And, based on the shape and height of them, I do believe that those are modern SVO valve covers that have been painted blue.
The Army took many (but not all) million dollar computers and crushed them on the airport runways in Germany in the sixties and the car companies took many (but not all) experimental cars and crushed them in the back forty at the proving grounds (still doin' it.) C'mon guys, American car companies did not have polcicy that impelled them to save experiments - the goal was always to mass produce the best and most reliable transportion for customers so they could provide investors with the best possible return. It was not Fiat or BMC or BMW or... Oh, I have no opinion on this at all. Let's look at it: should I buy a Ferrari and have a $3,000 tune-up every couple of months or a Mustang or 'vette and just keep driving and playin' with it and loving it?

Hmmm, for once, I guess I did pretty good.
