I don't know about the "1% were automatics" claim, but this looks like a neat car. The buck tag certainly adds credibility to the GT and vinyl roof status of the car.
This K-code must have been originally ordered by someone who wanted a touch of class to go along with the high performance.
There is a very nice looking rebuilt 4201 pump on ebay right now. 3 days left and $225.
They could have at least removed the rocker mouldings so it would actually look like a real GT.
Not to be overly cynical, but....
someone could use photoshop to 'blur' Mexican casting marks in a picture...
and someone can also use a die grinder to actually remove the marks.
Has anyone ever seen a stamped steel intake gasket with a valley pan for 289s like on 351 Clevelands and some Chryslers?? I seem to remember seeing one on ebay a few years ago that the seller claimed was a nos Ford racing part from way back. I've never seen anything like it since though.
I've always just set the cork in place (no sealer) and put only a tiny dab of sealer on each corner. I've always had good luck with this method on SBF.
I'm surprised they didn't state the car has a POSI rear end.

Nice car, but I think the VIN is too early to be genuine GT or pony.
I have a set in a box marked "289 hipo" that only have 'C3AE' cast in with a large dot after the numbers. They have 3/8 'football' head bolts, with the curved cut for the bolt heads. They appear to have been reworked and the beams and caps are mirror polished. They may just be regular rods that were modified, but they do have the curved relief cuts that match the rod bolt heads.
I don't mean to hijack, but how do you get the "T" trigger out of a '65 style handle in order to change the shifter boot?
While you have it apart be sure to check the pilot bushing. That is an often overlooked part that sometimes can cause shudder.
I don't think those are 289 heads. I think they are originally for a 221.
But with a nice port and polish job from Mondello's, I'm sure they would outperform a stock set of hipo heads hands down.

Are you sure your C2 heads are hipo? Do they have the cast in spring seats? If not, they may just be regular castings that were treated to a port/polish, or some other upgrade by Mondello's.
My gut feeling is that C2OE heads would be for a 221.

That's a great idea! And not nearly as hard as it sounds. Just pop the back seat, take off the window crank, a few screws on the interior panel, and you're in. If you're careful, you don't have to remove the sill plate.
I don't think you're being unreasonable at all. But my advice would be DON'T BUY THAT CAR FROM THAT GUY!!!!! DON'T DO IT!!!!! Just back out now. Take the ding on your ebay feedback or whatever, but don't close the deal.
The offer of a $1K price reduction was more than generous in my opinion.
There are plenty of other cars out there, so maybe you should just wait for the right one to come along. Skip this deal.
I'd bet that lots of 65's had their original mounts changed over to the later style mounts because they were stronger. Back when these cars were used/abused/raced daily, the owners probably just tossed the original mounts out in favor of what was 'better'.
And at these prices, I guess my 65 will have to be happy with the later style mounts it wears now.
If you are going through all the trouble to remove the springs anyway, why not replace them. Think about it-those poor springs have been doing their job for the past 40+ years, every single day, without a break. Even when the car is just parked, the springs still have to support the car's weight.
Leaf springs wear out.
One idea if you want to keep your original part numbers would be to transfer your old bottom leafs onto a new set of springs.
The sticker that specifies the radiator belongs in 'front' is a nice touch too...
