You have just voiced a common complaint about MCA judging and judging criteria - the use of the word 'correct' with little reference to what is in fact 'correct'. Yeah, I know, differences in assembly plants, times of the year and the grape harvest affect what was installed. A few judges have tried to address this situation but seem to get into a deep political rut. Nuff said.

I don't see any mistakes - (ref a 2002 Roibert Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon) but I do remember a statistic about paint - the most popular or common color for 1964 thru 1966 was Wimbledon White, named after a famous tennis event, the 'White Tournament'.

My first Mustang, a 66 Fastback "A" code, was Signalflare Red with a Black interior. My first 'K" code, a 64 Fairlane Sports Coupe, was Black with a Red interior. My 69 Mustang Sportsroof was also Black with a Red interior. A Black on Black "K" has a certain aura of mystery. Keep it.

Just an idea - if the dented part of the rails are under the floor board, drill a 3/4 to 1 inch dia hole (or several) in the floor board over the dented part and drive the dents out. MIG/TIG/Wire weld a sheet metal disc over the hole. Just a thought.

So if you make brackets from raw materials, why can't you choose an appropiate bolt, machine it to the correct form and fit, install it in place - instead of making a stud from scratch? And yes, I've modified 5/16-18 carriage bolts to include a lead point to use on 64-66 batttery trays.

the way they are made originally they arent meant to be restored. If you try to replace the stud you will wreck it

I'll be sure to tell Paul and Ron, the machinists, that what they did was impossible and that they will have to un-do their work - although it may be difficult as it was done in 1994 or 95 to a long gone 65 'K' hardtop.

Floor mats were a dealer accessory, not a factory item. Whatever type of mat that 'came' with the car was either a Ford Parts Department mat or something from the local auto store that the parts department manager used as a replacement.

Just noting the VIN is OK, but the door data tag is really what you should try and record. I have sent several hundred lines of 64 thru 66 Mustang VIN and door data plate into to Jim Smart and Jim Haskell for their Mustang Production Guide. There is no other data available for first generation Mustangs so what ever you can come up with would help. Next time, record the door data tag. That info is also recorded in the Tony Gregory book.

Red stripe on a red car with a red interior ? I dont think so

Ford wasn't that screwed up. Black strips were not offered on black cars, red stripes were not offered on red cars, etc. As to a black on black combination, I think the stripe color would have been red but it turns out to have been white. A red on red combination would have been black for candyapple red and white for signalflare red. My silver blue "K" GT has a blue/white Pony interior and white stripes. White was the only stripe color offered even with a black interior. My white 65 GT with black interior has black stripes, my white 66 GT with red interior has red stripes. What a dealer did, or what a owner did, or how a car was 'restored' after 43 plus years is another story.

This is a two part question involving a late build 67 San Jose Mustang.

When did Ford make the transition from phosphated fender sems type bolts to the cadmium plated bolts?

Should the two shields that surrounds the coil springs and the rest of the under hood fender sems type bolts have the same type hardware finish as the fender bolts?

Check to see if there is a front console bracket to the floor over the tunnel. You can do this by opening up console glove box door and see if there are two mounting screws to the top of the bracket. They are located about mid way in the glove box between the spring retainers. If there is no bracket, the console was probably not factory.

I punch the holes with an awl after I fit the console. An ice pick will work but the shaft may come out of the handle if it gets stuck. Drilling a hole usually causes carpet damage. With the shifter plate out, you should have enough play to make it fit. Use a coat hanger to fish the console feed cable from the firewall to the shifter area - first. Remember that the shifter arm is held to the mechanism by two shoulder bolts.
