You are one of the posters that asks "What Plant?" or "What year?" on detail questions like this, so, I'll do the same.

What I've seen are rusty or oil covered bolt heads, rusty or covered toothed washers and shiny threads on brake cylinder several 65 and 66 San Jose cars that I own or have worked on, eg zinc. I also note that the two piece Ford Service replacements (screw and lockwasher) are zinc (cad) plated. Were phosphated screws used? Sure. Ford's prime concern was making and selling cars, not documenting what they did, so a line replacement could be anything to keep the line movong. Keep this in mind, the brake cylinder was attached to the backing plate as a sub-assembly along with all the other brake related parts. I assume it was under Ford control for assembly as well as quality and these parts were specified for service based on the original factory spec, although we know that to be misleading.

AMK is about 80 percent correct on hardware. Max used the Ford Car Parts manual to set up his data and that parts data is replacement types. The factory would specify one thing for assembly line use and service would use something different: instead of a Sems bolt, a seperate bolt and lock washer; instead of zinc plating, phosphate and oil; instead of a toothed disc washer bolt, a washer head bolt. This was to reduce the number and types of replacement parts a dealership would have to carry for many different year model cars. That's why the Mustang Assembly Manuals are useful. Also the guys that pull off a piece of original hardware and do a look-see help a lot.

On a factory front bumper, the stamp is on an unused tab on the right hand side into the metal. The tab has a square hole and is located just before the big bend in the bumper. I've seen two formats; month-letter and date-number; and both month and date as numbers. I think the rear is in the license plate recess.

The part number you reference, C5ZZ-6513208-D, is a service part number for factory part number C5ZB-6513200. They were used on 65 - 68 hardtops and Fastbacks. A different p/n was used for 1964 factory assembly, C4ZB-6513200. There is a subtle difference between 64 and 65-68. The Ford logo plate is also different for 67-68. Will they fit? Yes. Will they work? Yes. Will MCA know? No.

Again, there are no Ford Motor Company assembly line records for Mustangs built in 1966 and earlier. The records were destroyed. This was based on a decision made to get the company computerized. The only Ford information about car statistics was from marketing and sales. That's it.

However, Jim Smart and Jim Haskell made a data base and published it in book form - "Mustang Production Guide, In Search of Mustangs" (vol 1 64-66, vol 2 67-73). It is based on informatiuon they got from many sources over several years. It is also out of print. This is the best source and even then, a lot of their conclusions are speculations based on what they tabulated.

This video is a little long, but is very, very good. A truly remarkable story and film and one I know you will enjoy.

THIS IS TRULY A REMARKABLE VIDEO. IF YOU'RE OVER 70 YEARS OF

AGE YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO KEEP YOUR EYES DRY; ABSOLUTELY MARVELOUS!

I promise you, you will not regret the time spent watching this video and please share it with your friends.

The video has great resolution and should be watched in “Full Screen”, to do so click on the box with the arrow coming out of it in the lower right corner of the video presentation.

AMK set up their inventory based on Ford's service hardware for 64-66 Mustangs, not the factory specified.

A couple of examples - Ford changed from a coarse thread to a fine thread for interior oval head screws. The screws that hold the dash trim from the factory (53061-S13) are 10-12X1.0 long but in their catalog it is a 10-16X1.0 long, different thread. To their credit, it is identified as "(sim)". Will it fit? Yes. Will it fool an MCA judge? Yes (unless it is removed). Is it 100pct accurate? You answer that.

The four bolts that hold the 65-66 Fastback rear seat hinge have a toothed washer, the replacements are smooth. Again, will it fit, etc?

This is not a critism, the exact items are not available. To reproduce every item of hardware and stock it would raise the cost of a 25 cent screw to several dollars.

    That's my entire point.

    Quote from J_Speegle

quote: All right car is a 66 GT coupe San jose built serial 6F07K247603

6F07K247603 is not San Jose is it ?

I wondered how long before someone would "catch" this (heh heh heh).
